Customer Reviews of Equinox
Excellent A&M debut from Chicago's finest Styx Styx's fifth album Equinox was released in November of 1975. This was their first album for A&M(they were on an independent label Wooden Nickel for years). They were signed based on the strength of the success of the song Lady, which became a hit two years after its original release. Keyboardist/vocalist Dennis DeYoung kicks the album off with the classic Light Up and he also wrote and sang the first half closer Lonely Child, and the concluding epic Suite Madame Blue which is the arguably best song of the pre-Tommy Shaw era. DeYoung also co-wrote three songs to which he also does lead vocals, Lorelei(a Top 30 hit) and Born for Adventure which were co-written by guitarist James "JY" Young and also Mother Dear co-written by late guitarist John Curulewski and Dennis and John sang. JY also wrote and sang the rocking Midnight Ride which kicked off the second half od the album. John Curulewski also wrote the 12-string acoustic guitar instrumental Prelude 12 which was a prelude to Suite Madame Blue. All in all, a great start to Styx's time at A&M and was an eventual Gold seller.

A Real Treat!
Probobly the best Styx album nobody's ever heard. Inventive songs with excellent musicianship. If you like Styx, you really should investigate this one. I consider it a gem. Usually fairly priced, too!
