Customer Reviews of Epson Stylus Color 740i Inkjet Printer (PC/Mac)
Astounding value This printer was popular when the blue and white G3s came out, and it offers good reliability along with richly colored, nicely detailed printouts. It may not have been a bargain when it was released, but with working models still on the market, it's as appealing as ever. The 740i and 740 printers are the same, except the latter is off-white. <
> <
>The 740 uses two cartridges: one for black & white and the other for color. While Epson will charge over $20 per cartridge, many reputable vendors sell them for around $2 each. You're probably aware of the inflated prices you'll need to pay for ink cartridges for newer printers. <
> <
>The 740i's "Achille's Heel" is the paper tray. It hangs at a 45 degree angle from the back of the printer, and the tray can crack if you accidentally lean on it. (This is why so many used 740i's lack paper trays.) <
> <
>Moreover, the 740i will not print to the very edge of the paper, as many current printers will; you'll find a 1/2 inch white margin on all sides. <
> <
>Otherwise, it's quite acceptably fast, easy to use, economical, attractive, and usable with USB Macs and PCs. Those who need high-end graphics should shop for more expensive printers, but most homes or home offices will find using this a pleasure.
Disappointed!
Ink level monitor is a joke, when it was still printing great, it show ink out (which is not true) and stop printing.
Head cleaning always clean both black and color, bad idea, it could end up use up half of the ink without having both heads in clean condition the same time.
With 2 of the above, I am staying away from Epson forever.
Great Product for the Price
I bought this printer at a great price of $30 and have gotten my moneys worth. It prints scanned pictures with great depth and clarity. It is fast! A plus. The only bad is, expensive cartridges. I pay more per cartidge than for the price of the printer itself.
