Customer Reviews of Encounter With the Unknown
the impossible does have exsistance i first saw this movie on 1/1/93 i have an gift for rememberence.
i now have it available on vhs. i thought it was marvlous because
i could relate to it because i have indeed had many experiences
that defy plausible explainations. i,am a firm believer in the
paranormal and reincarnation. i particularly could relate to the
final story about the girl who was killed in the car accident and
she kept trying to come back to reconcile with her father. i had
kept reliveing an past life that was extremely turbulent and,
eventually i had ceased it and, i,am absolutely more content.
Pretty creepy if you are into this kinda stuff!
And I am. I agree with the first reviewer though, I don't get why it has an R rating. Basically you'll like this if you are the type who stays up late watching documentaries about ghosts and bigfoot, and witches and vampires, and other stuff like that, just for a good scare. This film opens with a cemetary, supposedly one of a handful in American that houses many victims of strange supernatural occurances. According to the video, all the following stories are true, and actually, the film is presents its 3 short stories as reenactments of actual events. It's all very interesting and the first two are very creepy! The final story is probably creepy too, but it takes a while to get there and I've heard that one a hundred ways already. I wouldn't suggest letting your little kids watch this video, it CAN give nightmares, but it doesn't deserve and R rating either. A warning though, it's very seventies. Like the other viewer I also recognized the actors and the same overall style that this film had in common with Don't Look In the Basement. I recommend Encounter With the Unknown if you wanna see something that'll creep you out. I think it will, though it depends on the viewer. My friends didn't have the patience for it's seventies qualities.
Don't let the R rating fool you
This is a pretty good "late nite TV-esque" little trilogy that got lost in the shuffle. More like NIGHT GALLERY than the much more famous TWILIGHT ZONE for you Serling fans. If you watch the third segment, THE GIRL ON THE BRIDGE, and then watch S.F. Brownriggs' DON'T LOOK IN THE BASEMENT you will find a surprise. Many of the same actors in the same makeup! Worth a look to anyone who likes late night 70's TV, but not worthy of an "R" rating by any means.
