Customer Reviews of Emotions in Motion
Excellent album, but not as good as Don't Say No Emotions In Motion (1982.) Billy Squier's third solo album.
When Billy Squier became a solo artist following the disbanding of his band Piper, it's not likely that anyone knew how much success he would end up achieving. Although his first effort as a solo artist, Tale Of The Tape, was mediocre at best, his sophomore solo effort Don't Say No was an instant hit. Squier became wildly popular overnight. Following the release of that album, Squier released his third solo album, Emotions In Motion. Is it as good as the last one? Is it another Squier masterpiece? Read on for my review.
For this album, Squier slows down the general pace of his music and goes for a more melodic sound. If you're looking for another album of hard rocking tunes, you might be disappointed with this release. However, if you liked the last album, and you've got an open mind, you may actually end up liking this one. It kicks off with Squier's biggest hit that didn't come off of the Don't Say No album, Everybody Wants You. To this day, the song still receives radio play on classic rock and eighties pop stations alike, and with good reason - it's a regular rock masterpiece. Although it was an excellent song, the others are equally good. The title track and the minor hit She's A Runner are just a few of the masterpieces that this album serves up. Other tracks find Squier experimenting with a number of new styles, and for the most part, he finds success with them. In the end, we are left with what is overall a good album, but could have been better. Like so many other fans, I would have liked another album consisting mostly of hard rockers. Oh, well. I'm not complaining. It's still a good album.
Emotions In Motion may be a hard album to remember due to the vast successes of Don't Say No, but it's still a very good album. It doesn't top its predecessor, but it gets the job done nonetheless. Unfortunately though, this and every other Billy Squier album (other than Don't Say No and some budget-priced compilations) are now out of print, meaning you're going to have to do some serious hunting on the internet and/or in used CD stores if you want to find them. But if you're able to get your hands on this album, and you're a fan of classic rock from the eighties, buy it. You shouldn't be disappointed.
