Customer Reviews of Elmer 1500 St E W/latch
A decent carseat (...). Almost all carseats are a little inconvenienced but this carseat has been rated one of the safest carseat on the market by Consumer Reports. They tested many carseats in a actual car collision and found this carseat to be the safest compare to more expensive carseats. Safety is my #1 concern when it comes to my children. I'll put up with the inconveniences of getting my children in their carseat but at least I know they're safe. But to be honest, I don't really have any problems working with this carseat. If you READ the instructional manual, you'll soon find out that it's a very easy carseat to work with. I've worked with several other brands and found that Century 1000 or 1500 is so much easier to install and adjust when the child is in the seat. Yes, the straps do twist and get stuck, buy hey so do other carseats. For the price, you can't go wrong. Why pay more money on a carseat that looks so good in your car and plush for your child, but isn't safe in a collision. What's the purpose of the carseat?
Good for forward facing
I bought this carseat a few months ago to use in my husband's car as an "extra" seat. I bought it because it was reasonably priced and because it could accomadate infants and toddlers. However I agree with most of the other reviewers that this is quite a pain when it is in the rear-facing position. Not to mention it is hard to get the seat tightened down this way, because the seat belt has to go over your child's legs. To put them in you have to manuever their legs under the seat belt and to get them out you have to pull them up without getting their legs caught and I nearly hit my son's head on the roof of my car everytime. However he's now 8 months and i've turned it to forward facing and it works great. The harnesses are easy to adjust and fits my son very snuggly. Also it is lightweight and easy to transport. I highly reccomend this seat for people who want a reasonably priced FORWARD FACING carseat.
Age IS a concern when front facing.
I have not used the seat but I work with parents and children on safety issues and wanted to correct the previous erroneous message. A child SHOULD NOT be turned forward facing before 1 year old! It is not because of weight but because of bone development. Children under one do not have the neck strength to withstand an accident that would make their head whip forward. A rear facing car seat, lets the back of the car seat take the brunt of the impact. Follow the manufacturers advice and do not use the car seat until the baby is one and can be seated front facing.
