Customer Reviews of Edward Scissorhands (Collectible Tin Anniversary Edition)
Johnny Depp's Career Takes Off Even though Johnny Depp had done a few films before this, it was Edward Scissorhands that made the world take notice. Having recently come off the popular 21 Jump Street TV show, Depp had mostly been in supporting roles. Tim Burton, however, knew Depp was capable of more and cast him as the star of this imaginative story. Having just come off of directing Batman, Tim Burton clearly went back to his roots with this movie. Edward Scissorhands is a teenager who was created by an inventor in a dark castle. His inventor unfortunately never gets around to replacing the scissors with actual hands. A resident of the town who happens to show up at the castle sees Edward and decides to adopt him and introduce him to everyone. The town itself is very utopian and made up of mostly intense pastel colors that give it a sort of a retro feel. As with any fish out of water story, there are those in the town that learn to accept Edward, and those that do not. Plus, there are also things this fish out of water does that end up inadvertently getting him into trouble. Even though you've seen this kind of story many times, Tim Burton's gothic atmosphere helps it become something unique. In fact, it has been rumored that this story is something of an autobiography of Tim Burton himself. Regardless, what could have easily been a movie that faded into obscurity actually ended up doing pretty well when it came out in 1990. Fans took notice at this point of Johnny Depp's ability to take on weird unique roles and make them memorable. Not surprisingly, Depp is still taking these kind of roles to this day. Though he sometimes does more mainstream movies, Depp is perfectly happy doing smaller films where he gets the opportunity to do something different. Just look at the movie reviews for many of the films he's been in and you'll often see statements like "Johnny Depp is what makes the movie" or "without Johnny Depp, this movie would be nothing." This is why so many fans, including myself, have so much respect for what he does. He is easily capable of becoming an actor who does mostly blockbusters like Tom Cruise, yet he chooses to do films where he can be unique. Depp continues to work with Tim Burton to this day, yet each film they work on together will always owe its success to this one.
Tim Burton has done it again! Short/sweet review.
STORY: A young woman goes up to a house on a hill and discovers a man named Edward, a man for scissors for fingers. She takes him home and shows him to her family. So then, Edward makes plant sculptures, haircuts, and is appreciated everywhere. But one day, Edward gets into trouble...

>THOUGHTS: Well done movie! Like a new-age Frankenstein, but way better. I like the scene where the kid shows Edward to the whole class. Excellent! And his weird haircuts and personality totally just keep you thinking "He's so cool!"

Tim Burtons' Frankenstein
This must have been seriously influenced by Frankenstein. From Edwards origins down to the angry mob. Touching movie. Have not seen the special features, I never do. The movie is what matters.
