Customer Reviews of Eclipse
AWESOME! This CD is so great. I was suprised--I didn't think it was going to be so great. I read several reviews bashing this album, and I am glad I didn't listen to them. It's not as commercial as I was expecting. "Making Love" and "Bedroom Eyes" are pretty commercial, and maybe there's others that are kinda radio friendly, but all in all, it's not. My favorites are "Making Love", "Save Our Love", "Motherless Child", "Devil in Disguise", "Judas", "What Do You Want", "Demon Driver", "Faultline", "See You in Hell (Don't Be Late)", and "Eclipse". "Bedroom Eyes" is good, but not a favorite of mine. "Devil in Disguise" and "What Do You Want" are absolutely awesome! If you want fantastic guitar playing with great songs, don't hesitate--buy "Eclipse" now!
Too commercial
To start with, I'm a rampant Yngwie fan. I worhsip him as a guitar god, and love his writing abilities, to hell with those who say he's unoriginal. But this album wasnt that good. It had some great material, Demon Driver, Eclipse, Bedroom Eyes, a lot of solid but not amazing stuff, Judas, Faultline, What do You Want, and a couple of songs that are close enough to pop to make you gag, Making Love, Save Your Love. The more commercial pop vocals detracted from Yngwie's amazing guitar pyrotechnics of the past, i.e. rising force and marching out, and though Edman may be the best vocalist, though i prefer Jeff Scott Soto, he doesn't fit Yngwie well. Agreeable, this is his best performance for nearly a decade, as Seventh Sign, Magnum Opus, and Inspiration all fall short of the mark. Turn the clock back to Marching Out or ahead to Alchemy to find the man at his best and to drool over his fret-burning wizardry. Long live Yngwie and death to pop!
WHAT A WANKER
If the only skill you admire is the playing of many notes in a short space of time, this is just great. If, however, you also care about the notes themselves and the musik that these notes create, than this is obnoxious. Why musik like this needs a singer ( god he is dreadfull ) and lyrics ( very generous term for this drivel) escapes me. Surely the only thing any MALMSTEEN cd has going for it is the soulless noodling at warp speed that he is good at. I would rather see him in a circus as some of his playing borders on the acrobatic - but musik it aint!!!
Listen to ANDY TIMMONS. Similar if not better chops and astonishing compositions to boot. Not just many notes, but always the right ones.
