Customer Reviews of ESPN NHL Hockey
Almost Perfect I love NHL 2k3 last year and I was so excited for this year's edition. In general I think everything bad about last year's game was fixed in this one. The new added features are a lot of fun and give you something new to try. The commentary is just amazing and is the biggest upgrade. Slicker graphics also make this game amazing. The gameplay was HARDLEY touched, but there is still one major problem (see below).
However, I still feel as if there are a few huge things missing. The online play is horrible. Every game I play seems to have a bad connection, and I'm on a good broadband connection. Also, the goalies are impossible in the higher skill levels. In 2k3 I would win about 75% of the games on Hall of Famer level and now I struggle to get a goal on All-Star. The goalies are too good as you can rattle off amazing shot after amazing shot and still fall short. Even turning down the CPU goalie skill doesn't do much. They have to fix this for next year as the skill levels offer to much of a jump.
Overall I like this game a lot and it's a good improvement from 2k3. Also, ENOUGH WITH THE SHOULDER!!
Even better than last year!
Ok most have it right this game is by far the best hockey game on the market. I lvoe it the gameplay is realistic enough to challenge you but still accessible enough to enjoy. The game is virtually unchanged from last year with just a few facelifts in all the right places. The biggest complaint 2K3 got was about it's graphics and well ESPN fixed them up real nice and Gary Thorne and Clement did a great job. Here are the only gripes I have at the moment.
-Where did the injury occurance slide meter go??? I like injuries on but I would prefer if I could actually play a game without losing one or more of my stars for weeks at a time. At one point I have 9 regular players out of my lineup hurt for at least a week or more.
-They need to do something about power plays. For the most part if you are playing on a sped up clock the power play is really only like 30 seconds and the AI defense clears the puck a split second after it nears the puck. Maybe slow the clock down a bit for power plays would be nice.
-Lastly when are you gonna beef up the dynasty mode? I love the gameplay and the franchise mode is cool but EA's dynasty mode is amazing. Also player advancement should be performance related not predetermined.
But thats about it. I love the game. I really want a more in depth dynasty and this game would be perfect.
Greatest Hockey Game Ever
The person below who gave the game a 2 out of 5 Star rating is an idiot. Mike Buck, let me tell you personally that you are by far the biggest moron to write a review. "If you want Realistic than choose NHL 2004 over ESPN." Are you stupid or are you always like that. EA Sports NHL 2004 is an arcadey game of all sorts. And the reason the game is too hard for you is because your an idiot who prefers 15 - 7 game scores. EA's announcers are pathetic, the graphics shine, has poor shadow effects, and very little replay value among other things. ESPN NHL Hockey is the greatest hockey game you can buy. It has a skills competition, a mini rink, unlockable classing teams, like the 1982 Islanders or the 1992 Penguins, and more. It has cut scenes, player infos and everything. I recommend this game if your a hockey fan. But if you enjoy games that take an idiot to play and master than I suggest EA Sport's NHL 2004, the dumbest game on earth.
Oh, and if anyone doubts me, go to IGN.com or Gamespot.com or any other major website that reviews games. They'll agree that ESPN is way better than EA Sports.
