AAhh the memories...
I was stunned to find this rereleased on dvd. I have been debating on buying a used vhs copy, but now I have the best format. The sound and picture are great and it's like I'm 13 again. 1984 never looked so good. It's a great example of what an awesome band Duran Duran was (is) and what it took to do so many shows in such a short period of time. Arena shows are dead , but we have a beautifully shot film to remind us of the good old days. Definitely a worthwhile addition to any collection.

You have no idea how long I have been waiting for this...
I use to watch this documentary every day when it was first released. Watching it now, over 15 years later, I can't believe how great it still is. It captures the 1984 tour so well--the hysteria, the personalities, the music. It holds up as an awesome documentary of a band at the height of their popularity. For Duran Duran fans, this dvd is a dream come true. Non-fans should watch it to see how famous and loved Duran Duran were at the time. And I love the blue ultra suede packaging!!

Unless You are a Big Fan....Skip this!
Let me start out by saying I like their music and rode the various music waves of the 80,s, so I expected to like this dvd. But at close to $30.00, its clear anything to do with the music business is hyped and so is the price tag. It does however have a gloosy booklet with ALL photos of the pretty boys pouting , brooding, being Goffy etc, plus 6" by 4" glossy photos of each band member,..... So i guess if you are a BIG fan or a fan that croons at the site of them, then this would be for you. You would probably even enjoy watching them tour the FBI (why that boring tour would be included is beyond me,the whole segment is listining to the FBI guy with very few Band interactions) Im not paying for a FBI tour. The band themselves come off as regular people with decent personalities, like the kind you would find at a church social, I Guess that is appropriate since most of the girls chasing the limosine look to be about age 8-16. (Maybe the band were just tired and their energy was Low) (or maybe this tour Documentary was extremely censored). They do not have the dry humor or the wit of the Beatles, I didnt find them particuarly insightful ...or funny!
By 1984 the tour was bloated with 2 drummers, 2 soul singer women and the only time they showed ANY raw energy was during "Careless Memories". I dont know about you but I expect the performers to perform!!( to be fair , the set was very tight, the music sounded similer to the albums.....maybe too polished!!!)
Also missing was no camera views of the fret work of the musicians, no insight into the musicians and what inspired them...only Posing!!! And what is up with the fat angry guy on the phone, why would i want to look at him or listen to his personal dramas unfold?
WISH LIST: a "first tour" documentary played out in smaller venues when they still needed to work at it, and had a more raw sound, maybe some interactions with other bands they meet, some interviews about song crafting, some studio moments of the making of the RIO album. Possibly some insight regarding the "new Romantics movement in Rock"
At the end of the film it shows some ugly guy, (dont know who and dont care either)in the dressing room waving off the camera and sarcastically saying something like "its been real" as if his attitude suggests hes doing the public a favor by allowing us to see them, then it fades to black.
