Customer Reviews of Dremel 400-3/71 Series XPR Kit
A tool that feels like a toy... *****At present there is only one other review for for this item, a five-star review. If you click to see all of that reviewer's reviews, you'll see he only has two--both Dremel items. This always makes me wonder if the reviewer works for that company.***** <

>Here is my honest opinion of this Dremel: <
> <
>I bought this Dremel because it is the only one that works with Dremel's new multisaw attachment. With that attachment, which is sold separately, you can use it like a miniature reciprocating saw (Sawzall). Just pop any "T" or "U" shaped jigsaw blade in, and you're in business. I don't know of another tool that can be used in this way, and for that reason and that reason alone this Dremel is worth owning. <

>I already own another multiple-speed Dremel, and I thought I'd sell it once I bought this. But I'm keeping both because this new Dremel simply feels cheap and poorly made. It seems like its plastic case is flimsier and it doesn't feel as balanced when it's operating. It certainly isn't ergonomic. Any Dremel user who buys this latest model will instantly notice the drop-off in quality. <

>On the good side, the multisaw attachment works well and the molded plastic case is designed to hold the Dremel, the multisaw and planer attachments, jigsaw blades, the included circle cutter and flex shaft. The kit also includes two bit sets that lock onto the top of the case, with room for two more on the sides. <

>There's no way I can tell if this Dremel will last. I've put a pretty good load on the motor, and it hasn't failed. But I think that if I drop it more than a few feet onto a hard surface, it will break. The shaft lock button feels particularly cheap and uncertain. I expect it to break first. <

>Despite all my concerns I'm keeping this Dremel. But I'll only use it when I need the multisaw or planer attachment. Any other time I'll use my other Dremel (model no. 3956-02). <

>It's extremely unfortunate that at the same time it has chosen to make the most versatile Dremel yet, the company also decided to cut corners on quality. Dremel doubtlessly wanted to keep the price down on this unit, but in doing so they've produced a multi-function tool that feels like a toy.
What a cool Gadget!!
This much more powerful, yet small and handy DREMEL, really creates a whole new excitement of what you can do with a DREMEL! Being a frequent user of DREMEL tools for all sorts of stuff, I always thought it will be hard to expand the use of such a small tool. Now, after the first couple of uses, the new XPR 400 rotary tool with a bunch of new attachments makes the entire Dremel experience even more exciting and relevant.

>They literally doubled the power of the tool (at almost same size as before) to 2 Amps, compare to its older brothers, models 395 and 398!!! You wouldn't believe it, but this little guy creates so much power and torque that you can use it to do literally anything at all speed settings. Particularly, it will not bog down under load and it will not stall at the lowest speed setting of 5000rpm, even when you lean into it - and that's really cool if you use the tool for controlled wood carving, drilling, sanding, cutting etc!

>Besides the performance that really rocks, the cool looking industrial design has great ergonomics 'built in'. Despite the fact that it is much more powerful, it fits your hand pretty well, even if you grab it by the nose like a pencil. (it actually rests on your hand and you don't have to clamp it that hard)

>The real benefit of a Dremel tool is that it is kind of a small and non-intimidating (as compare to power tools) and its use is a lot of fun. Hence, the new 400 XPR attachments that come in the kit (I bought the $99 kit) are a great extension of the tool and turn it into a multi-functional thing.

<
>The Flexlight is a pretty powerful, flexible LED light that attaches to the tool. It basically moves with the motion of your tool and brightens up whatever you do. And it also fits other Dremel products, so you can also install it on the router base or on the new Scroll Saw - besides using it for any application you might think of... (like reading abook in the dark).

<
>The Planer attachment transforms your Dremel into a little planer that can easily remove material from a jammed door or window. If you want to remove a decent amount of material from a workpiece, sanding can be pretty cumbersome and messy - not with this new planer attachment.

>The 3rd attachment that apparently fits the new XPR 400 tool is a handy recip saw attachment, called Multisaw. I have not used it yet, since it is not part of the kit, but I checked on Dremel's website. It uses standard Jigsaw blades and is really useful for small sawing jobs in small spaces. Also, due to the shape of the tool and the attachment, it's the best for scrolling and cutting small openings anywhere (like inside cabinets).

<
>Luckily, all your old Dremel attachments still fit to this new tool (like Flexible shaft, router base, grout remover etc).

>The storage case is a great addition to the tool because it has organized room for all possible attachments and includes 2 detachable accessory cases (instead of bags with all sorts of stuff in it). You can use those accessory cases to organize your bits and pieces and for many jobs, you don't have to carry the entire case, so just take the tool and one of those small cases. Brilliant!!!

>So, all in all, I think this a very useful, neat and affordable addition to the high quality Dremel family - and it will for sure meet any people's needs that do some hands-on stuff in their free time.

>Highly recommended!
