Customer Reviews of Dream Babes 5: Folkrock N Faithfull
Folk songs of a past era just as beautiful today! The more I gather up fascinating re-releases, rare musical gems and compilations like this the more I realize that there was so much "lost art" caringly put together in a generation dominated by "the top ten machine" that unfortunately might have been lost had someone not made an effort to save them! I can only hope folk musicians of today dust off some of these types of undiscovered captivating songs and learn something from them. Many, although the message was about another era still would hold up if performed today. Since this is a multiple-artist collection, I can't say something about all that were contributed, but want to acknowledge the highlighted standouts IMO. Vashti - Mesmerizing and powerful; Nico - fabulous cut here! Lenore Drewery - lovely voice that had a sophisticated "Nana Mouskouri" quality; The Chantelles, Caravelles, Gemini, Greta Ann and group efforts all blend in wonderfully; Twinkle's contribution is a bit of an odd choice amidst, but I love her older works so much it hardly matters! Lastly, I would even have to say I prefer (...) Shingleton's vocals doing "In My Time of Sorrow" over the more widely accepted Marianne Faithful version only because by then the inevitable smoking damage was getting to Faithful's voice.
