Customer Reviews of Dragonfly (Fullscreen)
A great supernatural thriller! "Dragonfly" is a movie I didn't hear much about before going to see. The main reason I went is because I enjoy films about the supernatural and this one didn't disappoint. When Joe loses his wife in a bus accident, he is unable to get past her death. A disbeliever, he is sure that he will never see her again until he begins to visit a children's ward and begins to receive messages through the dying children. From there on, he has to struggle with these signs and visitations, trying to figure out what is happening to him and if she still might be alive.
This film is very frightening and the building suspense works very well. Its a subtle yet frightening film that will give you goosebumps if you watch it late at night. Both frightening and at the end uplifting, its a great film with a superb performance by Kevin Costner. To me this is one of his better films. I won't give away the ending other than to say it is very touching.
All in all, a great film for one that is interested in the supernatural and near death experiences. Dragonfly is a frightening and great film!
A slow start, but great story! Cool Bonus Footage!
Dragonfly starts slow but builds into a very interesting story with an eye-opening and satisfying conclusion. Kevin Costner's portrayal of a doctor in mourning is convincing although his eager acceptance of the supernatural seems a little oddly motivated at first. As the plot gets more bizarre his reactions get more extreme and that's where the film excels. Some other performances, particularly the child actors', are less believable.
On the DVD version the deleted scenes are interesting, but not as sharp as the rest of the film. (Maybe deleted scenes are always like that, I've never been interested enough to watch them on any other DVD, which is a real compliment to the depth of this film.)
The bonus material also includes the personal story of Betty Eadie's near death experience, which is convincing and fascinating. Her story lends the movie a sense of believability even though Dragonfly focuses more on grief and belief than actual near death experiences. (If you're unfamiliar with Eadie's autobiographical "Embraced by the Light", look for it. It's one book that can really shatter your perceptions.) Dragonfly is a very enjoyable film that didn't get must press during its theatrical release but one you shouldn't dismiss.
Ok movie a bit cheesy though
Costner as you know made terrible movies (The Postman :O) in his carreer (and great stuff too though) Well I decided to give a shot to this one. Even if it's not the best movie ever and not the best acting from Costner, I will say I was positively surprised. The end is a bit cheesy (kind of girly end) but I liked the work made by the director and cinematographer, the lighting and SFX were good too. It's a good entertaintement for an empty afternoon if you see what I mean.
