Customer Reviews of Dragon NaturallySpeaking Medical Solutions 9.0
DocRob This is very strong product. It comes with a headset of high quality and it is very accurate right out of the box. I use it everday at my office.
Finally, software better than a transcriptionist.
I've tried speech software in the past and was grossly disappointed. I hate the turn around of a transcriptionist and like to see what I'm dictating immediately. With this software I can speak at a rate that I naturally dictate, and in 5 full pages of dictation there are usually 3 errors in translation. Most patient names even are spelled correctly. This is more accurate than many transcriptionists and there are no spelling errors. I only trained the software for 5-10 minutes. My transcription costs are 10-15 thousand dollars per year. This is about 1000 dollars once. One of the best options for any doctor. I'm a family physician, and have been since 1998.
medical version not strictly necessary for every doctor
I am dictating using the preferred version of Dragon 9.0. I was curious as to whether the huge price difference between the preferred version and the medical version was warranted. Until recently, as a specialist surgeon, I have not found that the additional cost for the medical version would have been strictly necessary. However, I finally upgraded to the medical version after 3-4 months when I found it for a lower price. I recommend that you carefully consider whether you need to spend the extra 900 to $1000 for the medical version.

>The medical version does improve your accuracy when you are dictating complex medical phrases and jargon, and the accuracy gain you get might be worth the large price premium. In addition, the medical version includes some network interoperability features, and support for more applications, although I did not find any unsupported programs while using the preferred version. I should say that I finally gave up on the preferred and went to the medical version when I found a copy from a large online retailer for 400 dollars.

>The preferred version does quite well with standard medical words, and the few terms that it does not recognize one could quickly train. Unless you have very complex speech, use a lot of jargon, or have network or management needs that the preferred version will not allow, you may want to start with the preferred version. I got mine on a online bid-type site for about 70 dollars.

>By the way, I usually need to train with every new version, but I did not do any training this time. Previous versions I have used required extensive training. This version seems to be extremely accurate without training. I expect it will get even better with a little bit of training. Dragon 9 seems to be an improvement over Dragon 7, which was my last version.

>Dragon support still leaves a lot to be desired, and bugs remain distressingly common.
