Customer Reviews of Down to Earth
Always In My Player Now I can't get this CD out of my player. No, my player isn't broken. What IS broken is the state of radio today and the new music being released. I hate to always be the 'dinosaur' always buying 'retro' music, but when modern day bands and producers start delivering gems like this again, I'll be the first in line. It's so funny also that with all the technology today that no one can duplicate or improve upon the bass and guitar tones from this era. Mo Moore's bass tone and lines on this CD are worth it alone. Roye Albrighton's voice and songs and guitar-work take the cake though. "Fidgety Queen" is a masterpiece.
"Timeless Music from the Overlooked Nektar"
What a shame that so many people have never even heard of "Nektar" which is a heavily Beatles influenced progressive/ art rock band which created some of the most memerable music in this genre back in the 1970's which to me still is as fresh today as it was over 30 years ago. This is a concept album about a circus and every song is a virtual gem especially "Early Morning Clown", "Show Me The Way" and "Astral Man" Please add this magnificent CD to your collection and I assure you that it will bring you a lot of joy over many listenings.
Prog-Rock without the grizzle
This record is sadly one of the most overlooked of the 70s.
Unlike many progressive rock albums, this one won't bore the
non-musician.There are lots of catchy hooks and very few
wasted notes. On the other hand there is a wide range of styles.
You will hear some things that will remind you of the Beatles,
Pink Floyd,The Move, and even a dash of funk with horns-all
at the same time!'Fidgety Queen'is probably my favorite track.
It reminds me of what George Harrison might have written if
he had a hard rock band.I also love the crazy fuzz tone guitar
at the end of"Nellie the Elephant."This is definitely a lost
classic.Great playing,harmonies,and arrangements.Very tight
band.Be forewarned though! This is definitely their most
accessable record.Being a Nektar fan I have several of their
other CDs and they can get a little too far out into acid
rock land for the average listener. But if you are a fan of
Spirit,The Move,Pink Floyd,or late period Beatles this
particular Nektar CD is definitely for you.
