Two games come on the CD-ROM: a short introductory game called Search for the Journal, and the longer main game, Trial by Fire. The introductory game can also be downloaded from Disney's Web site if you're interested in sampling before you buy.
Trial by Fire can be played solo or multiplayer online. The solo game isn't all about shooting the bad guys--it features several short, challenging levels that involve varied tasks such as exploring caves, solving ancient Atlantean puzzles, and racing against rising lava. Some levels were very hard, but not unbeatable.
Unfortunately, short describes the whole solo game. If you sit down and play hard, you'll be done in three or four hours, wanting more. That's when you'll probably be ready for the multiplayer game.
In the online multiplayer game, you choose to play either capture the flag or tournament games ("tournament" appears to be parent-friendly code for "shoot the other team"). The boards are fairly simple, and players used to more complex FPS games will probably get done with them quickly. Play is smooth however, and lag didn't seem to be a problem on the GameSpy servers that the game steers you toward.
If you (or your child) already enjoy faster-paced FPS games, such as Quake or Unreal, this might seem slow and simple by comparison. But for younger kids and parents concerned about gruesome violence, Trial by Fire is fun and challenging, using all the characters and locations from the movie. It's a great intro to the first-person shooter style of games, and a good follow-up to the movie. --Jeff Quick

Customer Reviews of Disney's Atlantis: The Lost Empire - Trial by Fire
A steady climb of gaming goodness, then it's over. After finding this game hidden in the bowels of the local dollar store for a buck, I took a chance and got it. I got it home, had 2 hours of fun, and that was it. It was all gone. This game is fun, but extremely short and easy. The only hard part is in a tunnel full of giant ants threatening to destroy you. They are nothing. The level itself, however, is annoying and you have no way to mark your way. It took me a half hour to beat, which accounts for 25% of my play time. The game, after several bad... puzzle levels, gets good when you have to activate the four stone giants. These levels are fun and interesting, providing a refresing pace. After this, the fun goes away since you are met with a bad... ending. The graphics aren't bad, though they could have been better. Multiplayer is worthless, since nobody is ever on, and after winning the game, you won't play it again. 1 thumb up, 1 thumb down on this one.
A GOOD GAME, BUT GETS BORING AFTER A WHILE
This game is fun for about an hour. The graphics are merely average.
The intro is dumb.
Level 2 is pretty easy, the only hard part is those stupid bridges. They're only a board! The second bridge does not break if you walk on the thin board; don't fall off!
I got stuck on level 3, but finally figured out how to pass it:AT THE FOURTH TUNNEL, GO DOWN CLOSE TO THE GROUND; JUST SO THAT YOU DON'T HIT IT,THEN STEER TO THE MIDDLE OF THE TUNNEL, KEEP GOING UNTIL YOU FLY THROUGH THE MIST, YOU ARE AT THE END OF THE LEVEL.
Level 4 is the hardest one; there are keepers everywhere!
Level 5 is sort of hard; to get talisman 1, you must enter the water room. There is a treasure chest under the bridge in the water, but it is useless. Don't waste your oxegen trying to get it to do something. Just grab the talisman and get out of there! The fire room is harder; go slow to avoid falling into the lava. The wind room is the easiest; nothing can hurt you.
The rock room is by far the hardest. You'll have to avoid the cracks in the ground that if you fall into you will die. This is one of the only places in the game where you'll have to use jumping. Note that each time you come out of a room, that number of Keepers will be waiting for you. Place all these talismans in the stone book (the thing in the center of the room) and the platform will move down. See the book? Just walk up to it and you'll have beaten the game.
O.K
Atlantis was O.K But easy to bet. You have three levels of skill you can choose from easy, medium and hard but it's still not that hard to bet on hard. It's not much a chalange but still a fun game to play
