Customer Reviews of Different Game
amazinggggggggg oh my goodness. i met lissa this past week and even bought her cd. i just want to say that she is absolutely amaaaaazzing and is sosososososososososo nice.she is wonderful at fiddle, and her voice is so amazing. this is an awesome cd-get it!
many different styles to sample
Lissa Schneckenburger can play the fiddle really, really well and she has a decent voice too, although her own confidence in her own voice does not sound 100%. She opens this album with a song of her own composition into which she very pleasingly weaves the old Scottish dance tune, Silver Spear. The rest of the album consists of sets of tunes and songs that are about half traditional and half of contemporary composition.
Most of the traditional tunes are Irish (Molly McGuire's, Derry Reel, Wind That Shakes the Barley, and a beautiful version of The Butterfly), but there are also American and Scottish tunes here. The contemporary tunes generally adopt some combination of these vernacular styles and one of them (Lissa's own Hipper Than Hip) owes something to James Brown (yes, that James Brown).
So, if you are not purist and enjoy a fiddler who crosses over among different traditions, feels comfortable blending them and has a sense of humor, then you ought to pick up this album and maybe check out www.lissafiddle.com.
