Customer Reviews of Diamond 90030875 Stealth III S540 Extreme
A great card for the cost I bought my S540 AGP last year for $130, and I have been very satisfied with its performance. I have it running on a Pentium III 500Mhz, 192MB RAM, 2x AGP slot with a 17" monitor. I have not had any problems with it on the windows desktop, and it performs very well for my graphic design applications. For the best performance in my 3D games I usually run them at 800x600 though 1024x768 is not bad at all. In games such as Thief and Need for Speed High Stakes, the performance is almost flawless. The games only skip frames during heavy hard drive access, which is probably caused by my computer (it needs a little fine tuning) Overall, I am very impressed with the card - especially since I am using it with a 2x AGP slot and it can handle 4x. I have not personally owned any comparable cards such as the Voodoo 3000 AGP, so I cannot compare their performance on my system, but I would definitely recommend the S540 AGP for 3D gaming or graphic design purposes.
Some bugs but a nice card
Not a bad card at all. I have a celeron 266, and I am running all kinds of high demand games without too many problems. OpenGL freezes if you are overclocking or if you have the AGP aperature size too high. In Windows 2000, OpenGL is slow and choppy. Using Direct3D, games run smoothly. If you have Windows 98, OpenGL gives great textures and colors to everything. I have never had a lockup outside of a game. If they solved the OpenGL issues, this card would be a great buy.
Crashes left and right-Stay Away!
Card proved itself to be extrememly unstable. Crashes in 3D mode on EVERY 3D game I tried, plus it froze numerous times just moving icons on the desktop. Microsoft itself says the Stealth cards are incompatible with many of their programs (including I.E. 5.0) I bought this card over the Voodoo 3 because of the additional memory, but the Stealth was very disappointing. The Voodoo 3 works a hundred times better.
