Customer Reviews of Destination
A major disappointment Although some have described this as Ronan Keating's coming of age CD, I could not disagree more and since I get so much of my CD-buying abvise from fellow Amazon.com folks I feel like I have to return the favor.
I was and continue to be a huge Boyzone fan (one, if not the best, of the much maligned boybands of recent history); notwhitstanding I also enjoyed his first solo self-titled release as it took the Boyzone sound to another level and made it even more personal. That release included the amazing "When You Say Nothing At All" and was actually one of the better releases of 2001.
"Ronan" is followed by "Destination" and it's simply dreadful. He has moved in another direction, but change for the sake of change does not equal musical muturity. Here we have a really third-rate attempt to "rock-out" and jump on a bandwagon that fits him very badly. Even the highlights are bad remakes of songs that sounded so much better the first time around. Garth Brooks' "If Tomorrow Never Comes" is not too bad, but Ronan and Lulu bring nothing new to "Why Don't you Stay".
I guess my strong disappointment with this CD is magnified by the acceptance of fans who see Ronan as maturing and I see him as venturing away from what he does best. Reinvention does not work for most and many times it's the only way that lesser talents have to remain in the limelight. Ronan Keating is not one of these artists and has proven that he call sing with the best of them. I hope that if there is a third solo CD that Ronan gets back to singing songs that may not appeal to the critics, but are second to none when it comes to harmony and emotion.
Love This CD!!
I simply do not understand why this has not been released in the US. I have had it for almost a year ands I still listen to it every week. I just gets better with time. Its even better than the new Robbie Williams. You can put it in your CD player and listen to it start to finish--there are no bad tracks.
Buy this CD!!
Great new Irish pop from a great singer
This is a great album if you like brit pop. It's folksy at times, foot-stomping at others. Ronan's a bit more polished on this one - I kinda liked the rougher sound of the first CD. Ronan's also a great person that comes through his performances. I think he'll do very well as his star rises internationally. I do miss the Celtic sound which gave the first album a Tolkien feel, but this is an album to have.
