Cheap Sleaze Passed Off as Horror
If you're looking for a horror film, quick run away from this movie. The description may talk about demons but all we see that's horrific in this film, and I use the term loosely, is a demon that looks more like a gorilla covered in feathers. It's always surrounded by fog which is probably a technique used to hide the cheap f/x. The acting in this move is ridiculously awful. Even Tom Savini, which I found was not half-bad in From Dusk 'Til Dawn, does not not come across very well in this movie. Brinke Stevens: suffice to say that she's no actress, she's just there to flash her body.

Now if you're looking for a movie that shows badly made cheap sex ( you really don't see that much), well you might(???) like
this movie. As far as the added Demon Familiars is concerned, it is just another excuse for cheap sex. The girls act very poorly, and don't look all that sexy. If you want films of that kind, I'm sure there's thousands of better films than this one.

When I got this film, I didn't expect an award-winner but I did expect a horror film that would include some nude scenes. All I ended up getting was a cheap, trashy, poorly acted film that tried but failed to include horror.

the must own DVD for Brinke Stevens fans
The extras are what really makes this DVD a must for Brinke lovers. The outtakes from the main feature showcase alot of extra nude footage of Brinke, which is always a good thing.
However, my favorite part of the DVD was the Demon Familiars bonus featurette. I've been a Brinke fan since the 80s, and, since that time, I have always wanted to see her in a lengthy love scene with another woman. Finally, in this feature, she seduces a willing female partner, but what girl or guy in their right mind wouldn't want to hit the sheets with Brinke? While the scene is tame compared to most erotic thrillers on the market, there is enough of Brinke and the other girl kissing and fondling to make this scene a Brinke fan's dream come true. Demon Familiars is far superior to Brinke's previous, and way too short, lesbian scene in Roots of Evil. If only she had decided to do a lesbian scene earlier in her career and had hit the sheets with Michelle Bauer. Oh, well.
Brinke is also naked for most of Demon Familiars running time, and any movie where Brinke takes off her clothes is worth watching for that alone.
I think viewers should appreciate the main feature, originally titled Eyes Are Upon You, for trying something different. The movie is an effective blend of a crime film and horror, dealing with a pair of losers who rob a rich, beautiful woman (horror goddess Brinke Stevens). They find that the woman is a monster who kills all who come in contact with her. Unfortunately, the two crooks are given too much screen time and Brinke's character is given too little.The only part of the story that really seemed out of place, though, are the sections dealing with the man with the childlike mind who peeks into Brinke's house with his telescope. However, this gave Brinke another excuse to take off her clothes and bare her beautiful body, so I'm not complaining.
The film's low budget hampers the otherwise effective production, because the fact that it was shot on video gives it a cheap look. The monster looks fairly decent for the budget constraints, though. Also, the acting was a little flat in places, but Brinke is extremely effective, as she always is roles where she is both sexy and deadly.

Aka: Eyes Are Upon You. Two small time thugs desperately try to raise funds to pay back the money that they owe to the mob, while hit-man Eddie 'The Goose' Rao (well acted by fx expert Tom [Dawn of the Dead (1978) / From Dusk Till Dawn (1996) Savini), keeps them a little scared with some Yo-Yo torture? Afraid, the would be crooks here about a new women in town (played by beautiful Scream Queen Brinke Haunting Fear (1990) / Bad Girls From Mars (1991) / Slave Girls From Beyond Infinity (1987) Stevens) whom they plan on robbing for the money they so desperately need. The erotic she demon transforms into a grinch looking monster. She ends up killing the mob bosses family associate with only the thugs left to be blamed. "...The mob might be hot on their tail, but a bloodthirsty demon of blackest evil will make them suffer a fate worse than death." A creative, uncommercial and unsafe little project which falls somewhere between a horror and an action picture. Too, short on gore, considering Savini had some involvement, Xtra on the disc includes a short by Ward Boult and Brian Wilson entitled: Demon Familiars (2001) which also features Brinke Stevens in an Irving Klaw bedroom bondage type transgression film, much like the works of Richard Kern, or Nick Zedd.
