Got mine working but not recomended. Bought this through work months before our baby arrived. I liked the idea that it was an open design. I was looking forward to this swing not waking up the infant when cranking the manual crank like on the old design we used with our other two children.
Got the baby home, I ripped open the box and setup the swing in no time. Real simple design and like a typical guy I didn't even read the instructions. Just looked at the picture on the box.
At first it worked ok. It did swing but not much. All the speeds seemed to be the same. After a a week it didn't swing at all. We went through a couple packs of batteries thinking that was the problem. Nope! It was broken!
Called Mattel (Fisher Price) and they were actually very helpful. They sent out a new motor unit for free and said don't worry about sending the other one back. I got the new motor in just a couple days after they told me 10 days. Nice surprise! Swapped it out and same thing. It made noise but didn't swing.
I decided to replace the old motor back on the swing and to take the old motor unit a part while installed. Took off the control section that held the batteries. While apart I placed the batteries back in and turned on the unit. I messed with the spring thinking it was out of place with no luck. I took some of the gears apart to see if anything was bound up and it wasn't. I then noticed a small blue resister adjustment on the control board. I gave it a half turn clockwise with my thumbnail and BINGO! It started swinging! It even has different speeds now! I don't know what the adjustment did but I'm thinking it's how the swing is calibrated and mine was set barely too low. Who knows?
All in all, it works pretty good now for our 7 week old. Even though the swing works well, I'd advise not buying this swing due to the high chances of getting a dud.
Great Swing -- just 2 suggestions for Improvement
I'm really happy with this swing and more imortantly...my son loves it!
Just 2 things:
1. Never used the remote. Didn't find it at all necessary.
2. Really wish it had a 5-point harness! It's very easy for the baby to lean over, forward, and to the sides to grab the bars.
Even still, I really like it and continue to use it.
Don't waste your money
A turtle can walk faster than this swing. Every speed is the same SLOW. I received it as a shower gift and I hate it. I thought Fisher Price put out quality products. I wish I had a Graco. Since this is my last child I won't have a need for another swing but I recommend to all expecting mothers to buy or register for a different swing.
