Customer Reviews of Deluxe Backpack
Impressed by the features, but fabric ripped easily After trying this backpack on in the store I thought it would be great. I think the backpack is very well padded all over and it has great features like the storage and sunshade. Once I got home and put my 9 mth old son in it I found the waist belt to be too low. (i'm 5'8") I agree with the others that it is difficult to adjust all of the many balts and buckles accordingly to fit. Also my son HATED it. He screamed the first several times I attempted to put him in. I skipped the harness which was impossible with a screaming, squirming baby trying desperately to get out, and just started walking. He did stop crying once we were moving and he eventually fell asleep. I was able to transfer him to his crib without any trouble (although he wasn't strapped into the harness). I figured this would just take some getting used to. Then unfortunately, third time I wore the pack both sides of the fabric that attatched the waistbelt to the frame ripped. I was very dissapointed. I did like the pack enough to just return it and try a second one, but now that I've read these reviews (including anouther acount of fabric ripping), I think I'll look for something different.
fabric between waistbelt and carrier ripped on both sides
I had similar problems as other reviewers vis-a-vis: unable to get a tight fit around my waist, hard time adjusting the belts and straps, and difficulty getting a good weight distribution. My son fared ok in it. He had a hard time finding a comfortable way to sleep when he got groggy on our walk; his head kept bouncing off the padded bar and waking him up. I would've kept on trying with this carrier, but then the fabric that attaches the carrier to the waist belt ripped on both sides all at once near the end of our walk. No danger of the baby falling out, but it meant that ALL the weight fell on my shoulders. Needless to say, I took it back today (and by the way, Toys 'R Us was great about it, very easy exchange). Bottom line, it broke after two uses so I wouldn't recommend it.
Not for Petite Parents
We bought this as my husband and I are hikers. We did try it on, but figured we could adjust the straps later on. I am 5 feet 2 inches and it is just not made for petite people. No matter how we did the straps, the hip belt was never in the right place and I would feel like I had a child hanging on my shoulders (very uncomfortable). It's a bummer b/c I would love to use it.
Our 8 month old daughter has hated it from the start. I gave it 3 stars b/c it's definitely a secure belt system, but almost a bit too extreme. The straps are difficult when putting the baby in and getting the baby out.
Friends of ours have one by Graco, and it is much nicer and easier to deal with.
