Customer Reviews of Dear Wife
Not as good as the original, but still a worthwhile sequel This movie is the sequel to "Dear Ruth," in which William Holden plays a WWII combat flyer who has been recieving letters from a penpal Ruth (played by Joan Caulfield.) In actuality he has been receiving letters from Ruth's little sister, Miriam (played hilariously by Mona Freeman) Edward Arnold and Mary Philips are wonderful as Ruth and Miriam's parents, and Billy De Wolfe rounds out the cast as Ruth's would-be suitor. Of course Ruth and Bill fall in love, but the predictibility of the movie is offset by its hilarity. The sequel picks up with Ruth and Bill as newlyweds. Ruth's father, who is a judge, is running for political office and his new son in law cannot hide the fact that he opposes the Judge's platform. Bill is soon approached by the political opposition and runs against his father-in-law. While it lacks as compelling of a story line as the first, this really is a great movie, especially if you enjoy 1940s comedies!
