Customer Reviews of Dean Martin: That's Amoré
Wow, what a guy! For a long long time fan of Dean Martin, such a DVD is a dream. Songs, songs and songs, with a minimum of comments (and they are intelligent). Even Petula Clark gained talent near Dino.
Great voice, great attitude, Dean Martin makes you forget how much the Sixties were plastic: he was so naturally classy ... He worked hard but seemed to succeed in everything effortlessly, and the way he lives his songs here, - so gently - (especially the ballads) is so touching that it brings tears to your astonished eyes. Tears of happiness, and joy, since, as all the greats, he managed to mix danger, drama, melancholy and a strange sadness with what was maybe the best surprise in this guy: an incredible sense of humor.
Let's hope more projects as decent as this one will come soon. We want more of Dean, as we want more of some other great naturals such as Elvis, Eddie Cochran, Gene Vincent, Jerry lee Lewis... It's about time you fellow Americans pay honest tributes to your true heroes, not only singers, but also comic strips artists, writers, movie directors, actors.
That' Amore = Absolute Dean!,
Thank God for well preserved color video tape because: This is it! This is (no pun intended) 100% proof distilled Dean Martin at his very best! No unnecessary comments or re-hashing of all too familiar bio information, just Dean, and some really interesting and insightful comments from his longtime director Greg Garrison. I may be biased, but I fail to see how anyone can NOT like Dean Martin after watching this tape. The man was a true original, and yes: a genius. Qualities rarely seen in this day and age of Show business.
Anyone who thinks Dean "didn't care" should listen to his beautiful rendition of "I'm In The Mood For Love" or the honest "Pennies From Heaven", I love Sinatra too, but he could not have done these any better. It is a delight to watch how effortlessly he breezes through songs like "Somewhere There's a Someone" and "Houston" playing off of the energy generated by the audience and crew offstage, and to hear they way he blends his voice with Peggy Lee and Petula Clark; you'd think that they had been working together for years and years, and not just practiced for one afternoon!!
The tape also contains a few clips of Dean appearing on the Colgate Comedy Hour, singing some of his greatest earlier hits.
So run, don't walk, to your computers and buy this one! And don't buy just one, buy two or three copies; let's get those sales waaay up there, and maybe we'll see more of these fantastic performances (taken mostly from "The Dean Martin show") in the near future.
And if this tape/DVD only wets your appetite, you should check out Lee Hale's great book "Backstage at the Dean Martin Show". Loaded with pictures (color and b/w) and year-by-year anecdotes, it's the perfect companion to this brilliant tape.
Great Dvd!!!!
I highly recommend using Amazon for the site to buy it from because from beginning to end is top notch service & shipment!
PLUS if you buy this & another DVD...you could qualify for free shipping & also if you buy from other sites...they tax you like Walmart.com...Amazon is about to be my only source for dvds...I do use Borders and Walmart.com but Amazon has slowly creeped up there to be my main source because they email you for future releases...even dvds not even available for pre-order yet!
