Dead or Alive 2 features drop-dead gorgeous visuals, with gracefully animated 3-D characters rendered in great (and in some cases, downright naughty) detail. Not merely scenic backdrops, the lavish 3-D arenas are also highly interactive: fighters get slammed and thrown against walls, and, in some cases, they can be thrown through windows and off ledges, with the camera viewpoint following the aggressor as he or she jumps down to the lower level of the arena to continue the punishment.
A game that plays as good as it looks, Dead or Alive 2 sports a rich combat system that's heavy on the counterattacks. Gameplay moves along at a blazingly fast pace, and the simple controls are easy to pick up on and make executing combo moves a breeze; this is a brawler that both button-mashers and hardcore gamers will enjoy.
Unlike other fighting games which contain hidden features that must be "unlocked," Dead or Alive 2 pretty much lays all its cards out on the table from the start. There are 12 fighters to choose from (each with at least one alternate costume) and seven modes of play are available (including tag battle mode and a two-on-two battle royal that up to four players can join). --Joe Hon
Pros:
- Drop-dead gorgeous visuals
- Blazingly fast gameplay; simple yet effective controls
- Highly interactive 3-D arenas
- 7 modes of play, including tag battle mode
- Virtually none to speak of

Customer Reviews of Dead or Alive 2
The greatest looking game on the dreamcast! Bottom line, this game is gorgeous. From the moment I fired this bad boy up I knew I was in for a treat. In my opinion, DOA2 graphically surpasses soul calibur, and has a deeper fighting engine. However, as good as this game is, it is plagued by a lack of motivation to beat over and over. The story of the game isn't explained too well, and thus far, nobody on the internet has found anything to unlock by defeating it, leaving the consumer with no hidden fighters, costumes, or even an art gallery! By purchasing this game, you are doing so because u want a quality fighter. Nothing more. It's very similar to fighters of ten years ago such as the original street fighter on the super nintendo. It's a great fighter, but don't expect to be rewarded with anything after beating it except the satisfaction of kicking your friend's behinds. If you had to choose between soul calibur and DOA2, I'd tell u to choose soul calibur, simply for its depth and hidden extras. If you already own soul calibur, then I highly recommend DOA2. However, if you only have 50 dollars to spend on a game over the next few months, and are looking for something new to run on the console, I'd wait fifteen more days for resident evil : code veronica. Sure, it is a completely different genre, but your gonna get a more bang for your buck. If u have the cash to spend, then you have to own this game. It is a welcome addition to your dc library. Peace!
How could you not like this?
I've come to realize that many of you who have given this game a bad review just haven't played it enough. Yes I know that a complete lack of any secrets hurts the game in some respect, but what it really comes down to is the gameplay (which is almost on par with Soul Calibur). I'll be honest with you, at first I thought the game was incredibly boring, but I gave it some time, learned how to do reversals (very cool), and found the game to be a rewarding experience. The fighting engine is superb in its own right and the collision detection is spot-on. The other modes are great too (tag battle, team battle, sparring, etc..). Perhaps the coolest feature of the game are the multi-leveled arenas. While playing, I almost wanted to get kicked of the edge, but then I would lose, so I scratched that idea. The only weird part about the game is that the story mode does not make sense at all. Oh well maybe in DOA3. When it comes down to it, this game is mainly for multiple players, sure it's fun to play solo, but the real magic begins with others. A definite must-buy.
Pros- -Amazing player models and level graphics -Multi-leveled arenas -Superb fighting engine -extra modes
Cons- -Tag and team battle on one stage only. -No extras. -More characters would of been nice.
Overall- 10/10
