Customer Reviews of David Gray: Dance Fever
Variety Adds Spice to Funky Cool Workout! I just finished doing this workout and think it is great! I like to try different types of workouts and this one has little bits of everything. I just thought it would be dance, but it's not. I was completely surprised when the first segment after the warmup was pushups! Yikes! I mean, I NEED them but I didn't expect them on a dance tape, sit ups, etc. followed, but just a taste. Just enough to feel you did some good, then came the Motown dance segment. Cool - it actually made me feel like I was really in the groove (but the bit where the girls go off camera to give you encouragement really messes you up, you have no idea what's going on with the steps if you are new and just trying to learn them), then there's a techno dance section - which I think was before the Tae Bo craze, but it has a little bit of punching and kicking going on! Then there's a section with weights! How diverse can you get? But NOOOO that wasn't the end - the really cool part for me was the Ballet section (cool down - yea right, it was the toughest). I had always wanted to learn ballet and got a few of the tapes, but.... It was just too long and boring to continue, but with this you get just enough to make you feel like you've accomplished something. I think it's well worth the money if you are looking for variety and fun in your work out. PS David is a GREAT instructor and I am looking for more of his videos now!
What a mess!
Cheesy dance steps, girls who were obviously chosen for reasons other than fitness, and bad camera angles. His moves are sloppy and I would swear he was making them up as he went along except for the girls seemed to be able to follow him along. Don't waste your money. If you are looking for a truly outstanding dance splashed workout, I would suggest "DanceWorks" by Kari Anderson with the Pacific Northwest Ballet.
Cheesy, but surprisingly a good workout
For several years, I took aerobics and strength classes at the gym. Now, I can only fit workout videos into my hectic schedule. I like a tough workout that makes me sweat (the ones you feel in the morning the first several times you do it). That is difficult to find in a workout video. But, I think this one is pretty tough.
Sort of low-impact. Difficult choreography. I use this tape constantly. David Gray keeps me motivated more than most instructors. Hearing him yell "get those shoulders off the ground" during the crunch segment always pushes me to work harder. I always break a decent sweat when I do this tape.
It begins with a warm-up (push-ups and crunches are a part of the warm-up). Next, the tape is divided into 3 floor aerobic sections: motown, techno, and disco. The steps are actually fun to do after you learn them.. It feels very much like dancing. There is a stregnth training segment after the aerobics. It's quick and not difficult enough for me. Then a cool down follows that is tougher than the strength segment (it's based on ballet moves). I always stretch on my own after the tape. He doesn't stretch enough for me.
There is one VERY annoying thing about this tape. Each of the women "assistants" or whatever you wanna call them takes a turn to step up to the camera and offer words of encouragement. It's an annoying interruption especially when you're trying to learn the moves. But, now that I know the tape, I just zone them out.
I highly recommend this tape. I think it's the best kept secret in the world of workout tapes.
