Customer Reviews of David Gilmour: Remember That Night - Live from the Royal Albert Hall
Great Gilmour is great but I'm not kidding anyone, I wanted to hear the old Floyd tunes. The slightly different version of Shine On You Crazy Diamond and the performance of Echoes make the DVD worth every penny. There are a few songs that although they are great, I didn't really needed to hear again, specially since they're not that different from the studio version or the other Gilmour DVDs. However, there's plenty of surprises in the extras so I won't hold it against it. Gilmour makes Arnold Layne sound like it was written yesterday (the version with Bowie it's amazing), and Dark Globe is heart pounding, it makes you realize how great Syd was. The other highlight for me is Wot's... Uh The Deal?. The first time I heard that song I was 22 and what I liked about it was the phrase ".. cause there's a chill wind blowing in my soul and I think I'm growing old...". It's 10 years later and I'm thinking NOW I'm really growing old... As far as Gilmour is concern, what can I say? He doesn't play his guitar he makes love to it. Don't think about it too much, if you like Gilmour or the Floyd buy this DVD now.
A great Dvd
A must for every David Gilmour fan. New music is very good and the addition of Graham Nash and David Crosby on a couple songs is awesome. David Gilmour is truly one of the best guitar players of all time and his music when he was with Pink Floyd lives on forever.
Will This Do?
We've come to expect excellence from David Gilmour, and this 2 dvd set delivers in spades. Disc 1 is packed with material from his Royal Albert Hall show, further cementing Dave's reputation as a god of the Stratocaster. He takes turns on lap steel, Hawaiian guitar, saxophone, and something that looks like a cross between a banjo and a cooking pot. In Floydian tradition, the light show is spectacular, and it's so wonderful that he shares the spotlight with Pink keyboardist Richard Wright. For this old Floyd fan, inclusion of a magnificent "Echoes" and Gilmour's "Fat Old Sun" really hit the spot. Guest appearances from David Bowie ("Arnold Layne") and Crosby & Nash are icing on the cake.

>Disc two continues with a host of stuff too numerous to mention, including out-takes from the concert, another 5 song mini concert, a great video diary of his European tour, the making of "On An Island", two videos, and the previously- available-only-as-a-bonus-track "Island Jam", and more. A fantastic release.
