Customer Reviews of Darkest Day of Horror
Yet Another Mortician Album I don't normally go for the gory type of death metal, but for Mortician, I make an exception, partly because they're so damn funny. I don't get why people constantly talk about how Cannibal Corpse are better than Mortician. To me, Mortician is just Cannibal Corpse with better lyrics, a better vocalist, horror movie samples, programmed drums instead of live drums, and shorter songs. This album is pretty good for Mortician, but compared with releases by some stronger metal bands like Kataklysm, Dimmu Borgir, Napalm Death, or Cradle of Filth, it doesn't look so good. However, for what it is, it's enjoyable.
Another thing I don't understand is why people constantly refer to Mortician as "the heaviest death metal band on Earth." Having really low, detuned, and distorted guitar riffs, super fast drumming, and gross lyrics don't make you a heavy band. To me, if I want to really headbang and get my blood pumping, I listen to Sepultura, Soulfly, Napalm Death, Six Feet Under, Kataklysm, Spineshank, Hypocrisy, or Slipknot.
However, I still like this album. It's a solid Mortician release. Some standout tracks are "Dead and Buried"; "Darkest Day of Horror"; "Rampage"; "Ghost House"; "Vaporized"; "Disintegrated"; and "The Final Sacrifice."
A New Direction Of Some Sort May Be Helpful
I respect Mortician as a band, because they have been putting out strong, pure death metal albums for as long as I can remember, but listening to a Mortician album has become such a mundane and boring exercise that it is no longer a joy to hear. O.K., we get it, you play really heavy and you can gutterally scream very low, but you have been playing the same dam n song for almost a decade! 'House by the Cemetery' was classic, but come on, try a new direction or something. Or maybe try to play something that sounds a tad different. But by the title I am not imply Mortician go the melodic route, or anything of that nature, I would just like to get something more out of their music (but just don't lose the samples). I would get into more detail, but it seems very unnecessary. The reason why this recieved 3 stars is because I am a fan of Mortician. We all know their style. Listen, if you love Mortician pick this up, but if not, pick up any of there releases. They all sound the same anyway.
BETTER THAN DOMAIN OF DEATH.
I have always liked this band ever since I listened to house by the cemetary.People always complain that this band is not very technical or that they are not very talented. This band has never claimed to be very skilled musicians but have only promised to be unrelentlesly brutal.I just love that detuned sound in this album and it has very memorable songs. The movie samples are great just like they always are and the songs are very fast. They may not be the most talented death band but they sure are one of the most brutal and heavy of all bands.GO OUT AND BUY THIS!!!
