Customer Reviews of Danzig - Archive De La Morte
It's about time Glenn!! I have been bugging Glenn for years to get a DVD out, so to say that I am one happy camper is an understatement. It is definitely worth the price. "Bodies" is my favorite video, and shows Danzig, John, Chuck and Eerie really happy and relaxed. It makes me yearn for those good ol days:) And if you've never seen the uncensored version of "It's Comin' Down", then boy do you have a treat in store. It is extremism in it's finest moment (on the same caliber as the Genitorturers show I went to tonight--which they were also shooting videos for their next DVD in case you're interested). I should also add that Glenn to my knowledge still does not own the rights to the first 2 Danzig videos for you complainers, so he can't include any of the previously released material that Def American owns. That being said, I only gave it 4 of 5 stars because there were no extras, which was disappointing. No interviews, no backstage footage (which is always fun), no Verotik stuff, nothing extra at all. He could have released a version with a bonus disc with extras, maybe next time...
We want more!!!
This was worth it alone for the videos Dirty Black Summer, Mother and It's Going Down, but as has been mentioned in every review so far, I wanted more. Some backstage footage, interviews, something - more so, because this was my favorite era of the band. Eerie, John and Chuck were still in the fold, and most of the videos come from my favorite Danzig album (III How the Gods Kill).
While the aformentioned videos were very cool (I remeber the first time I saw them on MTV's Headbanger's Ball, so cool memories), a few were disappointing, like the How the Gods Kill video. Sistinas is a beautiful song, worthy of so much more than what is on the disc. The Bodies videos were cool, just the guys jamming, but I would love to see a 'real' video for this song. The alternative takes of each video were okay, but I probably wouldn't watch them again. But being the completist, I was glad they were there.
Now that we're on the subject of different versions, the It's Coming Down extreme version is a hot topic among fans. Let me just say that I have a pretty strong stomach and I won't be watching that one again. I like the first version, the clean one, because it's just Glenn and the band rocking out in a dungeon. Great photography, simple (same reason I like Dirty Black Summer's video), and almost like seeing them live. Glenn's charisma as a frontman shows through, and I dig it.
I am a huge fan, so this DVD was well worth picking up. The only reason it doesn't get five stars is the lack of extras. I just wanted more!
not that big a deal
Okay. The uncensored 'It's Comin' Down' video doesn't contain mind-warping nightmare-inducing earth-shattering imagery. It's a little kinky, in kind of a sad s&m way, but really, the thing everyone is making a fuss about really isn't that big a deal. C'mon y'all - it's just genital piercing.
If you're a Danzig fan, you ought to own this DVD. But don't buy it just because you need to see whatever it is in the 'It's Comin' Down' video that everyone else thinks is so heavy and intense. Unless penile piercings really turn you on or freak you out.
