With a plasma screen you get vivid colors like you've never seen before, extremely wide viewing angles (wider, even, than those of most LCD screens), and easy placement due to a plasma monitor's slim profile--the DTS-42 is a mere 3.2 inches deep, perfect for desk or wall mounting. Brightness tends to be extremely uniform across plasma screens, which are also impervious to the picture distortion and negative color balances that afflict CRT monitors when placed near lighting or sound systems. You do, however, need to be wary of image burn-in (wherein long-held stationary images leave a permanent impression in the screen).
The DTS-42 offers 853 x 480 native pixel resolution, a stunning 1,000:1 contrast ratio, high 1,000 cd/m2 peak luminance, and broad (160 degrees, horizontal/vertical) viewing angles so everyone can enjoy the best seat in the house.
Progressive scanning, referred to as 480p for the number of horizontal lines that compose the video image, creates a picture using twice the scan lines of a conventional DVD picture, giving you higher resolution and sharper images while eliminating nearly all motion artifacts.
The DTS-42 also performs 3:2 pulldown detection and reversal. DVD mastering introduces a common distortion when adjusting 24 frames-per-second movies to 30 fps video; reverse 3:2 pulldown digitally corrects this distortion, removing the redundant information to display a film-frame-accurate picture.
A digital, dynamic comb filter enhances resolution by removing blurred edges between colors and reducing dot crawl (tiny, moving dots of color along a sharp color separation in a vertical line, as in a depiction of a character's striped T-shirt). Other image enhancements include CCF (Capsulated Color Filter) technology for natural colors, a MGDI (Meta Genuine Digital Image) engine, and ISM (Image Sticking Minimization), which guards against image burn-in)
An onboard NTSC tuner lets you watch SD television right out of the box.

Customer Reviews of Daewoo DTS-42 42" Widescreen Enhanced-Definition Plasma Television
Nicest Plasma TV on the Market for the Money! Sir / Ma'am, <
>I bought my Daewoo 42" EDTV Plasma with the optional speakers from CompUSA for $1349.99 after rebates and gift card. <
>I received the $150 rebate and $200 gift card in about 3 weeks after purchase. <
>First of all, this is a plasma TV, so there are precautions you need to take into consideration: <
> <
>1. Set your brightness and contrast levels to below half way before the first 200 hours of use. <
>This will help the phosphors and reduce the potential for burning in a static image. You will hardly notice these settings if you keep the room light low. <
> <
>2. Turn the TV off when you are not watching it. Stations with static images such as tickers or logos may burn in if you are not careful. <
> <
>3. This plasma requires a minimum of 4 inches of clearance from the wall. This model has vents on the rear, top, and bottom, so maintain proper clearances to prevent overheating. <
> <
>4. Turn on the pixel shift function to prevent burn in. It makes 4mm up, down, left, and right adjustments to the screen's image every 20 seconds to prevent burn in. It is defaulted to the off position. <
> <
>5. Visit www.plasmatvbuyingguide.com before considering a plasma TV. Regardless of price, they may not be suitable for everyone's needs. <
> <
>This TV has many of the popular inputs to make the most of your viewing experience. <

>It's funny, but I went to many stores looking for 37" - 42" inch Plasma TV's under $2500. <
>The salespeople said it would be quite a while before I would find HDTV Plasmas in that price range, so they showed me the EDTV models. It was weird, but some EDTV models had better pictures and features, while at half the price of their HDTV siblings. The salesperson could not explain it, but he did show me a $7000.00 model that blew everything in the store away. <
>Do yourself a huge favor; Remind yourself that you will not be sitting at home comparing two plasmas side by side, marveling at the one that has the better picture. With that in mind, I went with the overall picture, features, and lowest price. The Daewoo won hands down. <

>This TV has an awesome picture, but it most likely will need to be adjusted out of the box to suit your viewing taste. The TV menu is intuitive making all adjustments very easy, and the universal remote is also easy to use, however it is not compatible with my cable company's box. <

>This is an EDTV; however HDTV stations look absolutely beautiful. I figured that the HDTV stations would look like DVDs, but they look at least twice as sharp. Yes, DVDs look great also. My family and friends thought I was watching 3D shows when they first looked at HDTV stations on it. Being a Daewoo, I was concerned about the reliability, but this TV has been great. I could not pass up the deal I received on this TV. Hopefully, you will find it at a really good price also. <
>Highly recommended! <
