Customer Reviews of Daddy's Little Girls
Good, but not Great! First I will always support Tyler's movies as long as he continues to produce positive dispictions of black American life. However, I have some bones to pick. <

>I did not like seeing an elderly man (Lou Gosset) with an earring. That was not cute. An old man should set a good example of being dignified. It's like my daddy wearing an earring. That is the problem you have the elderly men trying to relive their youth, and setting bad examples for young males. <

>Church scene was culturally inaccurate. 95% of the women in the audience did not have a hat on their head. This doesn't exist in a real black church. Hats are church sistah's crown and glory. No woman over the age of 18 would dare come to the church without a hat. <

>Monty was not properly dressed for a traditional black church congregation. He should have had a classic suit. In the funeral scene he wore a dark suit, then why not keep the costuming culturally accurate and consistent. <

>I did not like the comment "you are going to need God and two white people." It suggests that whites are God, and if they don't come to your aid, you are up the creek without a paddle. Also, there is some historical truths to this comment. <

>The movie ended abruptly. The ending was bad. I feel that the movie should have been about 20 minutes longer. Monty and Julia's are portrayed as going off into the sunset and everything will be alright. These are two very different types of people. I am absolutely a fan of Tyler's, but he is not the best story teller and should enlist the help of one, i.e. Tananarive Due. <

>I appreciated the story line focusing on the plight of educated women finding a good, normal and productive man. It is a real challenge. I feel for my sistahs. <

daddy's little girls.
At the begining of this movie I wasn't all into it because it was so predictable but towards the middle and the end it got better. Very good movie!
Enjoyable to watch but not totally satisfying.
"Daddy's Little Girls," Tyler Perry's first feature film without Madea, is like a dinner at most expensive restaurants. It's tasty but leaves you asking "Is that it?" It is about a blue collar black man named Monty (Idris Elba) who is battling for custody of his adorable daughters, age 5 through 12, from their evil, drug dealer loving mother Jennifer (Tasha Smith) who doesn't even want them but doesn't want their father to have them either. The snobby, uptight lawyer that he starts out driving for, whose name is Julia (Gabrielle Union), first treats him like dirt but later takes an interest in his case. Eventually they fall for each other and, you can figure out the rest.

>It's a good concept and certainly one that is overdue given how many professional black women complain about the black male "shortage" when many are simply victims of their own superficial standards. The execution of the story, however, has it's flaws. Would anyone as snooty as Julia's friend Cynthia even associate an unemployed, inarticulate and trifling 40 year old rapper let alone set her friend up on a date with him? The fact that Julia fell for Monty after getting drunk on their first date is somewhat unsettling as well. Tasha Smith's portrayal of the hateful babymama is so over the top that you can't help but wonder why an upstanding man like Monty would be with her long enough to have three children. The ending also leaves a sense of some loose ends not quite being tied.

>In spite of these, and other flaws, the movie is timely and mostly enjoyable. Tyler Perry's take on issues such as community responsibility, faith in God and being willing to go outside of your comfort zones for love are commendable and the fact that he even chose to highlight the black man who is most forgotten, the one who doesn't come in a fancy package but is a good responsible person, gets a gold star from me. Idris Elba and the strikingly beautiful Gabrielle Union (who probably has the cutest smile in Hollywood) have great chemistry together and you can't help but love the little girls (sisters in real life) who play Monty's daughters. Just don't expect to find yourself yelling "Oscar!" at the screen. Go see it nonetheless.
