Customer Reviews of D Magazine
D AS IN DALLAS OMG, the reviewer below is a harsh critic of this magazine. Frankly, I love it, yes it's not the New Yorker, but Chr*st what is, it's just a fun read, dude. I enjoy the gossipy articles on the ends and out of Dallas, I know some of the people they write about and im amazed how accurate they are. I admit, I could not wait for the issue on the most expensive houses in dallas, or the best neighborhoods or the gossip on Mayor Miller. If this is not your kind of read, then dont buy the magazine, but for what it is..a really fun read every month..it excels...the reviewer below needs to loosen up and not be so sanctimonious, the magazine is what it is and for that i am grateful, frankly, one New Yorker is enough.
All About Texas
The magazines are essential to knowing what is happening in Dallas and Texas in General.
This magazine will insult your intelligence on every page
I live in Dallas, TX, and I have bought this magazine a few times and my wife has bought it several times. It is a local magazine with an appealing cover and it contains local "celebrity gossip". This is what has prompted us to buy it (shame on us). However, you shall not judge a magazine by its cover page, and from now on we will not buy this magazine again.

>The D magazine seems to be written by talent less, spoiled and self centered teenage girls who love to write about who is who in Dallas, and at the same time carry out personal vendettas using their magazine. They often create lengthy lists of the "best this in Dallas" and the "worst that in Dallas". These lists span professionals, companies, restaurants, real estate agents, etc. At first these lists seem interesting, however, they are too detailed, too long, too random, lacks insight, and are too a large extent based on personal opinion and a "lust" for listing everyone and everybody. The lists are not well researched useful information. To get useful "lists" of local restaurants or professionals use "city search" or even the local newspaper.

>The writing style itself is anti-intellectual, shallow, vain, and very often insults your intelligence. Even though it is not intended to be a tabloid magazine it reads like one and is very similar to one. However, the cream on the cow pie, are all the personal vendettas carried out by the writers. For example, they hate the mayor of Dallas but not for political reasons, it's personal. I did not vote for her, and I am not a fan of our mayor, but I find the repeated vicious personal attacks and "loser awards" given to the mayor quite ridiculous. The pages of D Magazine are seething with hatred for the mayor but if you read it you will still not have a clue what their problem with her is. Add fake sarcasm and dishonesty to the brew. Again "spoiled teenage girls" comes to mind.

>In summary "D Magazine" is a lousy magazine with no useful information written by talent less journalists who probably could not get a job at the local newspaper (Dallas Morning News). It is not a magazine tailored for intelligent readers with a life. Still, I admit I was suckered into buying it a few times (I bought National Enquirer a few times too, shame on me again). If this is the cream of the crop of city magazines I'd hate to see the rest. On the other hand the people handing out that award might be the same kind of people that creates the "D Magazine Awards".

>Well, speaking of awards. I am herewith awarding "D Magazine" the "Thomas Wikman lousiest Magazine on planet Earth award, for 2006". OK there is thousands of magazines around the world that I've never read that could be worse, even though I think that is unlikely. But compared to the clueless and opinionated "D Magazine Awards", I think I am doing just fine without having to research the issue in greater detail.
