Customer Reviews of Crow
Amazing. First time I saw this film, I watched it on VHS. Not that great. It was extremely dark and I had a hard time seeing things. I popped in the DVD and WOW! I could see what was going on! It's great. The story is beautiful, dark but powerful. I highly recommend this film. Especially this eddition.
classic
1994 saw the release of Alex Proyas' cult-classic "The Crow". The plot of the film is pretty straightforward; a vigilante killer, one year after the murder of himself and his girlfriend, goes out for revenge. In terms of the plot there aren't a lot of twists and the film is, dare I say...predictable...You know exactly how the film will unfold twenty minutes into it. Apart from the fact the vigilante has risen from the dead, movies with similar plots have been done before. Still, almost immediately after its release, "the Crow" achieved cult-status, enjoying a large, dedicated following. Why is that, exactly?

>One reason that "The Crow" has struck a nerve with people is its theme of love defying death. The reunion scene between Eric Draven (Brandon Lee) and Shelly Webster (Sofia Shinas) is one of most bittersweet moments in film that I can recall. The relationship between the "good" characters (and there are very few) is also quite touching. Sarah (Rochelle Davis) is a quite likeable kid and there is genuine warmth in her scenes with her dysfunctional mother, Lee and Sergeant Albrecht (Ernie Hudon).

>Most of the thugs in this film, apart from "Top Dollar" (Michael Wincott) are pretty generic. They are so vile, however, that it's satisfying when Lee takes them all down. The dark atmosphere, (dark streets, urban decay, cemeteries) cinematography, and action sequences are all quite exciting and well done.

>Even if the film, at its core, (vigilante killer after bad guys) doesn't have the most original story line, the rich charectors, setting and themes of friendship and undying love more than make up for it. The abundance of excellent music (NIN, The Cure, RATM, there isn't a bad song on the soundtrack, infact) throughout the film is also a great bonus.

>While Brandon Lee, sadly, never got a chance to really develop as an actor, his role of Eric Draven in this film no doubt ensures that his legacy has at least one classic.
