Customer Reviews of Cowboy Bebop - My Funny Valentine (Vol. 8)
Wow..... What cnai say? WOW! This is the first video at the turning piont in Cowboy Bebop. From here out pasts are revealed leading up to the end of the series. This movie goes into's Fayes past for the first time, with a twist ending. Actually bot hepisodes have a twist ending on this tape in true Cowboy Bebop style. In the second episode Jets past is revealed as he meets his old partner. This is one of my Favorite tapes in the series. A must have.
Bebop continues its standard of excellence
"My Funny Valentine" gives us a glimpse into Faye's past in an unusual and interesting fashion without giving away too much about her. Though we learn little about her "incurable condition" and what led her to be cryogenically frozen we are given privy to her private hopes and dreams for the future as a child and her terrifying adjustment to the future as an adult.
"Black Dog Serenade" explores the origins of Jet Black's artifical arm. Attempting to stop a violent band of killers in control of a prison ship we see that the person who took Jet's arm is not who he thought it was.
Chalk up another fantastic viewing experience for Cowboy Bebop.
It's a cold, lonely universe out there ...
'My Funny Valentine' and 'Black Dog Serenade' reveal Faye and Jet's past lives. 'Valentine' deals with Faye's past....far past. After being woken by a purging Ein's stench, the hard luck lady is reminded of her only love she can remember: a man named Whitney Haggis Matsumoto (who looks like a human version of Ein). She recalls her past which she can only delve from 3 years back when she was revived from cryostasis at a hospital after 50 years entombment due to an incurrable condition. Whitney was a young man who helped her cope with her new life in the future world, and his passing left her heart and pocket book in deficit. Now...he is on board the Bebop as a captured bounty...but isn't he supposed to be dead? And why did he gain 100 lbs? 'Serenade' revolves around Jet's old ISSP partner and the criminal responisible for the loss of Jet's arm 7 years ago. This episode is really great visually, but has tons of killing, shooting, blood and death: possibly the most violent episode so far. Excellent action sequnces and introspective moments. Both episodes detail the cold lives of two of Bebop's members, and how they have chosen to become the people they are now. Funny, sad and brutal ... bitter sweet episodes, but EXCELLENT Bebop anime. A must have tape.
