Customer Reviews of Country Home
ONE OF THE BEST DECORATING MAGAZINES My mother, sister, and I are all dedicated readers of COUNTRY HOME, along with just about every other home decorating magazine being published today. But this magazine tops our lists as one of the best. COUNTRY HOME is innovative, fresh, and very informative. It succeeds in highlighting new trends in country decorating along with sidebar topics that accentuate this lifestyle (food, entertaining, etc.). My personal favorite section of the magazine deals with collecting. I love to read and see what others are collecting, and their focus on hot new collectibles is fun to read (and keep a watch out at flea markets and antique malls). I have gotten so many good ideas from this magazine that reading COUNTRY HOME is well worth the time and effort. And since I'm tired of waiting for my turn to look at each new issue I just got my own subscription! Now I can enjoy it on my own.
a new look, and a nice upgrade
In its September 2003 issue, Country Home presents a makeover of its own, with better text type and layout, added features, and an overall upgrade in quality for this magazine that centers on the care and décor of the home.
Favorite articles in this issue include:
"Country Rooms"; on how to make the most out of an apartment with 600 square feet of living space (with little storage space), in a way that is stylish, innovative, and comfortable.
"Nesting"; which has some marvelous ideas on how to decorate with old china plates, and much more.
It covers three gorgeous homes; a small cottage, and a dream beach house, both in Laguna, California, and a ranch in Montana. All of them are exquisite, without being lavishly furnished. One could incorporate many of the design ideas in this magazine, and still stay within one's budget.
A highlight is a piece on quilts, "Living Legacy". Made by African American quilters in Gee's Bend, Alabama, who at one time sold these wonderful works of art for a fraction of what they sell for now, after being exhibited at the Whitney Museum of American Art, in New York City.
Food: "Taste the flavors of the rugged West", with delectable menus from the Belton Chalet in Montana, including a meal of trout, fresh from their nearby crystal mountain waters.
Recipe of the Month: "Mixed Potato Galette", simple to make, aromatic, and a delicious side-dish.
For people who want décor ideas that can be done easily and inexpensively, and tips on what to look for in antique stores and flea markets, this a a lovely magazine, and its readers should enjoy its new fresh and modern look, and improved, easy to read format.
Country Home
I read (borrow and buy) loads of decorating mags, but I am particularly interested in 'country style' decorating. I absolutely love the American 'Country Home' magazine. Wonderful articles and photographs, stylish but homely at the same time. I think you can borrow ideas to use in even the most humble home. I live in Queensland, Australia, in a timber cottage which lends itself to some of the ideas I have gathered from this magazine. My only complaint is that the magazine is being published only every second month now. I get very impatient, waiting for the next issue! It really is the best.
