Costakis the Collector was filmed at Costakis's final home, a villa outside Athens, where he fled in the late 1970s with only 20 percent of his collection. Costakis shares the difficulties he spent in accumulating his comprehensive collection and introduces us to the history of the prolific constructivist movement. Interspersed is home-movie footage from one of the last parties in Costakis's small Moscow apartment, which was packed wall to wall with paintings, drawings, and watercolors. Costakis remembers visits from scientists working on sputnik, Stravinsky returning home after 50 years, and painter Marc Chagall. Costakis the Collector is not only a moving introduction to one of the 20th century's brightest art movements, but it is also vital to anyone with interest in this period of Soviet Union history. --Ted Sonnenschein

Customer Reviews of Costakis the Collector
Actually, I never seen it I think the guy looks kinda weird. I don't know much about art. But why does it attract so many weird people? Like Salvador Dolli. He's sure weird, boy. What's with the moustache? It's like because he's an artist he gets to have that weird moustache and everybody's supposed to think: Oh, what a brilliant Artiste? Costakis should go back to Russia and keep his weird art (and his weird looks)to hisself.
