Corsican Soul It would be unusual if this album fit right in with other music you usually listen to but it will quickly become a favorite and stand out in your library because of it's depth and character. It is like a fine wine that becomes more and more familiar and better with age. Subtleties in the music allow for transitions with the lyrics and emotional undertones that will have you thinking of those crooners at the bistro on the piazza.
Hauntingly beautiful, blends Moorish/Spanish/Corsican music.
Guelfucci was a political activist but decided that he was not really influencing the outside world about how he felt about his country and how beautiful it was. He turned to music, which has a strong tradition on Corsica, and has produced a truly fantastic album. I had never heard this kind of music before when I heard it on NPR. The music is hard to describe but seems a mix of flaminco and moorish sounds and is very haunting. At times I am not sure whether it is a love song or a call to prayer. All the songs are great.
