Customer Reviews of Convertible Car Seat
LOVE this carseat We bought this carseat when our daughter outgrew her infant system. After a thoroughly researching just about every brand and type out there, we settled with this one, despite the other reviews on this page. She is still in the rear-facing position and it fits in both my Chevy Malibu and my husband's Silverado. It was very easy to install with the LATCH system and is very secure (verified by our local firestation). It is easily portable between the two vehicles, and is easy to place our baby in and out every time. The buckle system can be complex if you don't practice it a couple times, but we set ours up in the living room and "played" with the buckles, straps, and tightening straps before attempting to place a squirming 8 month-old in it. The straps do occasionally become twisted, but so do 99% of the systems out there, and they are easily un-twistable.
The added bonus of this car seat is that it will last from infancy through school-age, making it a great investment. Overall, I feel my daughter is VERY safe in this carseat, which should be the most important decision-making factor.
Twist and Shout
My husband and I looked for a safe, versatile car seat for our son. We didn't look at the price tag, just the features. We decided on the EB convertable. I thought "great, only one car seat for the next 5 years." My husband is very safety conscious, so he was happy paying any price. We bought the seat when our son was 9 months old, and had nothing but problems with it.
It is not made for rear-facing infants. The seat doesn't seem to recline to a recommended 45 degree angle. His head flopped all over when he was trying to sleep. And the straps, where do I start? The harness straps twisted so bad everytime we used the seat I was practically going insane by the time I got him strapped in. I also don't like the inter-locking seat belt, you have to try to put 2 pieces together like a puzzle, hold it perfectly together with one hand, snap it in place, all with a moving baby. I thought I was just being overly annoyed with this. Then my husband, who is the most mild mannered person I know, became just as annoyed as me. That was it for us. I thought if something could annoy him that much, I'll never be able to stand it.
We took it back, and are still looking. We did just go and get the over the head shield version of this car seat, and it's great. We think we may actually keep this one. Our son is now 14 months and is also front facing. Go with a shield model. You'll still have your sanity after a day of errands.
I HATE MY EB CAR SEAT
We bought our EB car seat when my son turned 6mos. Much like the others who complained about their seats I have trouble with the belts getting twisted. I also hate the recline. A CAR SEAT SHOULD NOT BE DIFFICULT TO MANAGE. I have seen some who say just untwist the belts... that is bull. I shouldn't have to pay this kind of money to untwist belts over and over. Besides all of this my biggest problem is that you can't remove the fabric on the seat for cleaning. They say in the manual that you can't dry clean it and that you should use a damp cloth to wipe it. I'm sorry but babies poop pee and puke in car seats. I just don't think wiping is going to cut it. Who has time to STEAM CLEAN their baby's car seat? I hate my eddie bauer car seat!
