Customer Reviews of Connected Guide to the Digital Home
Name Change - Focus Change? AV INTERIORS is changing its name to CONNECTED. Hopefully the editorial direction will change.
So, don't commit to anything for a few months.
The problem with AV INTERIORS is that they wanted to be a source for high-end AV gear but everything was superficially covered. While short blurbs and PR photos serve a purpose in seeing what's out there, it's not really very useful in making buying decisions on equipment costing thousands to tens of thousands of dollars. Why subscribe to a magazine that was less useful than the product's website which you can readily access at no cost?
Even the lower end products were superficially covered - rudimentary testing and encapsulation of specs - again, we too can read a brochure or the website.
So, if you're interested in seeing lots of photos of products and want a brief rundown on what it does, AV INTERIORS serves that purpose - if you want real information, real testing and real comparisons in daily use situations - AV INTERIORS did not serve that market. Choose HOME THEATER or PERFECT VISION instead. Hopefully the name change to CONNECTED is a deeper change than just their business cards.
Next review to come in a few months - after a few more issues.
On the surface a magazine for high end home theaters.
After my first issue of this magazine I was overwhelmed by the price tags on the theater designs and products. But once I got past the surface price tags I found a magazine rich with style, ideas, product reviews and information on future techs.
It's a magazine about more than simply spending money on projectors and 100 inch screens. It's about our passion for cinema, and our need to recreate the feeling we got the first time we sat in a theater and saw a really good film, in our homes.
Okay that may sound a bit corny but it's still a very cool mag.
Great reference magazine for home theater ideas
Now, most of us can't afford the type of home theathers that are featured reviewsin AVI ($100k+ budget), nor can we afford the gears used in these theaters ($40k CRT projectors? $20k line doublers?). However, for the past 5 years, it has given me hundreds of ideas on how to improve my (more modest) home theater. From architecture to room design to furnitures to gears.
AVI's gear reviews is not as technical or in-dept as others, but out of all of the magazines I've subscribed to over the years, this is my favorite. I promise you that you'll be Wowed by it.
