Customer Reviews of Command and Conquer Generals: Deluxe Edition
An oldie but a goodie! I've been a fan of this series of games for over 10 years, but just recently have had the equipment to play network games in the house with my 2 boys. C&C Generals and C&C Zero Hour, which both come in the deluxe edition, are old games by today's technology standards, but they are still excellent if you want some interactive and strategic fun--and even better if your machines are not all the highest powered PCs on the market. <

>I bought multiple copies, because you'll need separate licenses if you want to play a networked game. My sons and I have gravitated toward C&C Zero Hour, because it has a plethora of weapons and landscapes. There are 3 levels (Easy, Medium, and Hard) in Zero Hour. From our perspective, Medium is the equivalent of C&C General's Hard--it's tough! This is a good thing, because Zero Hour's Hard level provides constant challenges! <

>We have had no difficulties playing with 2 computers networked together. We have encountered difficulty connecting 3 machines together. Sometimes things get so out of sync that we have to reboot each machine and start over. I don't know if this is a quirk of the game or if it's something with my network. We can live with it tho, because we have a blast playing the game together. <

>Here are a few ways of playing that we've enjoyed: <
> <
>You can always play with everyone taking on everyone else. Of course, my boys usually happen to gang up on me, and they are now good enough that I'm toast. Now, we'll set up teams and I'll get to have an "easy" army on my team. It helps a little... ;-) <
> <
>If you can, place all the computers in your network close together--it really contributes to some good natured smack-talk! <
> <
>Put yourselves on the same team and take on a couple of hard armies. That presents a great challenges and forces siblings to work together. This has been great. <
> <
>If you have an inexperienced or young player, put a medium or hard army on their team. It balances things out very well. <
> <
>And finally, have headphones for every player if you're all within hearing distance. Otherwise your opponents will quickly figure out what your strategy is! <
> <
>Highly recommend the games, even though they're dated. These are classics and not that difficult for younger players to learn. Have fun!
Excellent. Buy it now. It is still a great game.
This is one of the best real time strategy (RTS) game ever. I have been playing this game for two years with my friend online, and we are still playing it. If you still didn't have this game, go and buy one.

>Units are not so futuristic, so you can realize the power of the units. One spiderlike tank is not killing the entire army with one shot. So that is good. Huge variety of land units, air strikes, mines, intelligence units and etc. You can earn experience, after destroying enemy units and you can gain new points to earn new technologies. Unit and technology variety is great.

>One of the best features in the game is resource management. One type of resource makes you to concentrate on strategy. If all resources in the map are collected, you can still make money by building alternative resource collecting units/buildings. If you like long games like I do, this is a great attribute. I remember playing Red Alert or Starcraft with my friends at LAN party. Every game was the same. We were attacking each other with super high technology for first 30 minutes. After 30 minutes, we were attacking each other with stones and arrows, just because of resources were depleted on the map. Game makers should place this property to all new generation RTS's games (I hope Blizzard considers resource generation or alternative resource production in Starcraft 2).

>Game is relatively old, so you can play with almost any system with no problem. Graphics are still good, and game is created on 3D basis. You can rotate or zoom the map. I have a three year old, cheap and on-board video carded laptop. Although these negative computer configuration, I play this game fluently and having great fun.

can get tiring........
good, solid, game. but the AI isn't anything speicial. eventually you get tired of seeing the same battle happen over and over and over again. The campaign is not that great either. if youre looking for a good campaign get red alert 2 and yuris revenge.
