Customer Reviews of Collection 15 / Art of the Fugue
A Very Passionate Glenn Gould Video! All the videos in this collection are great, but this one is my very favorite. You can tell Glenn and Bruno Monsaingeon are comfortable working together, and it's obvious they both like, and respect one another. Glenn's playing is outstanding and beautiful to watch. You will never forget this performance. It shows a gentle and beautiful human being experiencing the absolute bliss of music.
You send me the wrong video!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I sent an e-mail trying to see how I can return this video and get the right one. I received it while I was out of the country and when I opened it I found out I got the wrong video. I sent Amazon.Com an e-mail two days ago informing about this but I have not yet received a reply. You have not a proper, easily identifiable way to connect with you regarding this kind of situation. I would like a reply soon!!!!!!!!!!!!
Two masters and their craft
This video highlights two peerless achievements: Bach's writing of fugues, and Gould's analyzing and playing them. While earlier installments in the Gould video series of Sony are sloppy compilations of programs that Gould himself carefully build, this tape contains one of the three devoted to Bach that remained in it's original format. What a blessing, since it is not just the playing, but also the context that Gould's commentary provides, that make this tape so meaningful. Both the analyses of the fugues, and exploration of the reasons of the fugue's appeal, and of Bach choosing this form of composition should even appeal to those that dislike Gould's interpretation. While libraries have been filled about Gould, it may be in this video, in which a person of such unmatched talent talks about what he does/likes best, that the most accurate picture of Gould himself emerges. While the two other late Gould videos, the choice of instrument and the Goldbergs, are great in their own right, this will always remain my clear favorite.
