Customer Reviews of Coach Carter (Widescreen Edition)
One of the best sports films that I've ever seen! 5 stars++++ "Coach Carter," transcends well beyond just another emotional sports story. Samuel L. Jackson provides the inspiration to a bunch of high school students, whose only interest in life is playing basketball and getting into trouble. Coming from very humble backgrounds, the characters in this film have led a life of poverty and despair. They are talented, but unmotivated basketball players and have little to no interest in school work. Coach Carter puts an end to that by shutting down the basketball court until all of the basketball players have attained an acceptable grade point average. By teaching the ball players that life exists beyond the basketball court, he inspires them to become better students, so that they will be able to live a better life. By setting extremely high expectations of his students, he instills in them the qualities that will not only make them better ball players, but provide them with the skills and motivation to become better individuals and to excel at whatever it is that they desire to do with their lives. Watching a bunch of spoiled losers transform into a bunch of confident winners, provides the inspiration that is so lacking in many of today's young people. This movie should be required viewing for all high school students, and adults would benefit from watching it too. "Coach Carter," is an outstanding film and among one of my all time favorites.
"I came to teach boys, and you became men"
This one is definitely one of the best sports-based movies that show the growth of teens in a basketball team growing up in a neighborhood filled with bums, drug dealers, gangsters, and young students from Richmond High School, that are about to be influenced by the streets. As this team continues to bond together, after the appearance of their new basketball coach, coach Carter (Samuel L. Jackson) the players changed for the better.

>As Coach Carter teaches the team members the importance of respect, education, and the heart of a champion, their growth becomes evident, along with their team's winning record. They ceased to act like punks, and acted like champions. They ceased to be just ball players, and became students. They ceased to become boys, and became men.

>This movie is one not to be missed and is definitely inspirational to everyone, whether or not you're interested in basketball. "So you can push up, or shut up!"
Overly Preachy, But Effective Drama!
Based on the true life story of a high school basketball coach in Richmond, California who wants his players to do better in life and on the basketball court. So muc so, that he bans his players from playing until their grades get better. It's a decision much to the chagrin of the parents and school board. The movie I felt tries too hard to tell the story and almost loses its punch. But with Samuel L. Jackson contining his great round of performances, as usual as the title role the film still is worthy of praise. Great for all kids 13 and up as they can use a lesson on priorities.
