Bassist Adam Clayton and drummer Larry Mullen weigh in with illuminating comments, and the hour offers an abundance of video excerpts, concert footage, and memorable anecdotes. Eno sets the record straight on the torturous process of recording "Where the Streets Have No Name" (he almost "accidentally" erased the master tape in hopes of starting from scratch), and Bono admits to a heavy Led Zeppelin influence on "Bullet the Blue Sky." Archival footage shows the recording in progress (one wishes there were more of it), and what emerges from this collective reminiscence is an enlightening study of mutual chemistry and fruitful collaboration. Upon viewing this video, another listening to The Joshua Tree will be more rewarding than ever. --Jeff Shannon

Customer Reviews of Classic Albums: U2 - The Joshua Tree
A must have for any music fan First off, I've been a U2 fan since this album came out and bought this DVD when it hit the stores. It's not for everyone. It's not cool, it's not trendy, just a great behind the scenes look at one of the most amazing albums of our generation. You don't have to be a U2 fan to appreciate this. How they came up with the sounds, loops, riffs of the songs is a real treat. No, not every song on the album is included, and no, there's no reason why the video for Sweetest Thing is at the end. But if you love this album, you'll really appreciate the DVD. And you can't beat it for the price.
Not exactly what I expected but still not bad
I expected more of old footage and music videos for the Joshua Tree songs but received mostly a discussion about the album by the modern-day band members, Daniel Lanois and Brian Eno plus some footage from live performances - severely restricted. It was fun though to see Bono getting kind of shy when Daniel talks of his singing and - surprise, surprise! - playing. The live performance of Running to Stand Still alone was worth buying the DVD, and a story and a video of Sweetest Thing as a bonus were - well, sweet.
A wonderful hour of uninterrupted navel gazing!
I'm not surprised that a lot of the reviews here are negative -- I think that in order to enjoy this DVD, you have to be either a diehard U2 fan or a musician. But since I am both, I absolutely loved it! This is not a DVD full of music videos (except for the hilarious "Sweetest Thing" video), rather it's a series of intimate, extremely informal discussions with band members, producers and other people involved in the making of the album, with a bit of concert footage thrown in. If you're into that kind of thing (and I am), this DVD is bliss. Otherwise, stay away.
