Customer Reviews of Clapton:Live '85
"We'll, I left Oklahoma, driving in a Pontiac...." This is a really a great concert, recorded in May 1985, at the Hartford Civic Center in Connecticut. The video is technically entitled "Live Now", but I'm assuming they list it this way so fans don't think it's a recent concert. My favorite track, is without a doubt "Layla". Apart from the orchestral version, this is my favorite live recording of the song, for two reasons: 1.) Eric's guitar solo is outstanding!! He really opens it up, on this one! 2.) Chris Stainton's piano playing is simply wonderful. I hope, if and when they release this on dvd, it will be in surround, so that I will be able to hear all of the instruments, clearly. Another one of my favorite tracks is "Tulsa Time. (Quite obvious, from my title block) I've seen Eric live on his last two tours. (Pilgrim & Reptile) I wish he would dig back into some of his other hits, like some of the ones featured here, rather than rehashing the old standards. Granted, this video was produced to promote the album "Behind The Sun". (Notice the similarities in artwork between the video and album covers.) This video has been in and out-of-print by a few different companies, so, I'm not 100% sure of it's current status. I do know that it's not hard to find, and it's relatively inexpensive. Rock on, EC!!
Clapton's first video from 1985
First, my apologies to wxymovies, the merchant that I ordered this video tape from, through Amazon.com's new/used marketplace sellers. They had sent me the wrong tape and I left a very negative rating for them, and then discovered that they sent me another tape, the correct video, a few days later which I found in my mail. Thanks to them and sorry for jumping to conclusions.
This concert features Jamie Oldaker on drums from Clapton's original 1970's band. The songs include Tulsa Time, I Shot the Sheriff, Badge, Let it Rain, Motherless Children, Tangled In Love, Lay Down Sally, Forever man, Cocaine, Layla and Blues Power.
Clapton is in good form here- worth owning. Clapton is my favorite guitarist, along with Larry Coryell and Mike Bloomfield.
Another great Clapton video is the 1986 England show with Phil Collins.
