Customer Reviews of Civilization
Not what you expect.. After hearing the single Maniacal, this CD is definitely not what I was expecting. For those that preferred the B-Side of Maniacal ("Anti"), you'll be pleased to know that this new album is closer in line (although still by far different) with Anti than it is Maniacal...
The album has a lot more mellowness than I would expect from a Rhys infusion, but I think this is a good thing. It's also very clear that their musical talents have advanced over the years, and they are using far superior techniques/technology to achieve the album.
I prefer music that is more music than lyrics, and less guitar than synth, but still acoustic enough to be warm. This album easily meets these parameters.
Reading the review prior to this one, I do agree this is very Delerium-FLAish, but it's not at the same time. It's much more creative than Delerium alone -- It is much darker than Delerium.
I recommend listening to this album at least 3-4 times completely if you do end up purchasing it, before deciding if the whole thing is good or bad ...
In summary, my opinion: This is what Industrial should be. Dark, Futuristic, Smooth, Powerful, with some hints of Mellow. I give this 5 stars because I can listen to the entire album straight through without skipping any songs.
Delerium Assembly
After listening to this one a few times I've come to the inescapable conclusion that Bill and Rhys need to keep their projects separate. There are far too many hints of Delerium and Conjure One in this music, and while I actually do like those side projects, they have no place in FLA's repertoire. The droning female chants on top of heavy industrial? No thanks.
I this one a 3 out of 5, because while there are some catchy tracks on the album, it's just not what I was expecting from the single Maniacal.
