Customer Reviews of Cher - Live in Concert
I BELIVE IN CHER! This fabulous concert was filmed in August of 99 infront of 15,000 people at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. Cher delivers 18 great numbers with the help of her band, back up singers, 6 dancers, video screens, 8 costume changes, and even trapise artists. The setlist includes I Still Havent Found What Im Looking For, All or Nothing, The Power, We All Sleep Alone, I Found Someone, The Way Of Love, Half Breed, Gypsies Tramps and Thieves, Dark Lady, Take Me Home, After All, Walkin In Memphis, Just Like Jesse James, The Shoop Shoop Song, Dove La More, Strong Enough, If I Could Turn Back Time, and finsishes with Belive. The DVD version includes a photo gallery, a biography, costume designs, and stage film features which includes the video Walkin In Memphis.
Cher Turns Back Time
Cher might not be the best singer, actress, or beauty in the world - but she is certainly one of the great entertainers of her generation (or any generation for that matter). This concert, originally aired on HBO, is the essence of Cher and chronicles her four-decade career. Through multiple costume changes, Cher recreates her various past incarnations -- from the long-haired Cher of the 70s to disco diva of the 80s to soft-rock balladeer of the early 90s to her lastest "comeback" as a techno-pop wonder with "Believe." Some may say this is a bold move (can you imagine a 50+ year old Madonna prancing around in a wedding dress singing "Like a Virgin"?) but would we expect anything different? From her outlandish costumes to her self-mocking chats with the audience - Cher, after all these years, has perfected her act.
All of her musical hits are included in this concert along with a cover versions of U2's "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For" and Mark Cohn's "Walking in Memphis" (a rousing version which Cher obviously has great fondness for but did not achieve success with). Extras on the DVD include a biography, photo gallery, costume designs, and the film-snippets that were used on the big screen at the concert (a nice addition since they are hard to see during the concert and often drowned out by the crowd's cheers). Having seen actually seen this concert live, it is nice to have it on DVD to relive a very entertaining evening with Cher.
Believe the Unbelievable
I got the rare opportunity to see her "Believe Tour" in Minneapolis in 1999. I sat only ten rows away from the stage. Cher was amazing! Though there's nothing like live experience, this DVD still features the Las Vegas concert wonderfully. The elaborate stage settings and the numerous costumes are amazing. Such energy gives her music and her show the extra enjoyment. She opens the show with "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For". It lives up to the original U2 version. From that song to the end, there's never a dull moment. The film clippings from her past interviews, performances, music videos, movies, and the "Sonny And Cher Show" are enjoyable. They show more of how she's evolved from "Gypsies, Tramps, And Thieves" to the Grammy-winning "Believe". Besides her stage presence, her voice is amazing. Such concert quality makes this DVD worth watching several times. This is important material for any Cher fan to include in their collection.
