Customer Reviews of Caravan of Dreams
Smooth jazz sounds equals cool jazz Peter White has become one of the many new "Smooth Jazz" artists. But no matter what label you put on him, this album is full of cool contemporary jazz sounds that keep you movin'. Never has the acoustic guitar sounded so smooth. The album isn't full of technical and intricate playing much like an Earl Klugh album might be, but that doesn't mean White isn't a talented guitarist. The proof is in the listening of "CAFE MYSTIQUE" & "LULLABY". On "MYSTIQUE" he plays with Marc Antoine, taking turns with the solos and melodies. White also gets help from two fellow smooth jazz cohorts, saxman Boney James and trumpeter Rick Braun. James blends his funky sax in on the three opening tracks, while Braun adds his trumpet to "LONG RIDE HOME", along with Dave Camp's flute for one of three best tracks on the album. Basia also lends her beautiful voice to "JUST ANOTHER DAY", which works very well with the other nine instrumental tracks. This is one of those discs that you can't stop playing. It is great for those long car rides or just relaxing around the house.
Contemporary Jazz Collectors CD - A Must Have!
I've been a contemporary jazz fan over 20 years and have to say without hesitation that this album is one of the finest I have in my collection. An avid Peter White fan, I have every CD he has produced to include many artists whom he has appeared as a guest with and the list is long. This CD is certainly a must have. Awe-Inspiring!
Peter's fingers moving along the frets and his signature smooth style are grace and poetry in motion. A truly gifted musician that performs with passion and heart. My first exposure to Peter White was the year my wife and I got married, Al Stewart came out with "Year Of The Cat" and it was that signature guitar style within the song that made us life long fans of his since. Two of my all time favorite songs are without a doubt "Caravan of Dreams" and "Venice Beach". The cover art for this CD speaks volumes about the individual behind the music.
If you enjoy Peter, you'll enjoy his other CD's - Caravan of Dreams, Excusez-Moi, Promenade, Glow, Perfect Moment, Reveillez-Vous and Collection. You may also enjoy Ken Navarro, Russ Freeman, Chieli Minucci and Jeff Golub (Avenue Blue).
Enjoy!
Smooth jazz in hands of a velvet guitar
The actual generation jazz is supported by the guitar as the starring instrument. So the keyboards ruled in the eighties and the sax in the seventies.
I don't mean this as a fundamental statement but a clue approach to invites you to think about. Think, for instance in the the two top master keyboards, Gregg Karukas and Brian Culbertson and Dave Koz , Rick Braun as fundamental musicians.
Chuck Loeb is a major guitarrist too, but I'd rather prefer White may be due his musical ideas are supported by more innovative conceptions. In this album you may find out a particular universe in every track.
Which one of these tracks is your favorite? It's a difficult answer, but you'll find a delightful reason for Caravan of dreams or Venice beach. Ten tracks filled with beating sounds and musicality.
Obviously who can deny the huge influence that Wes Montgomery still surrounds to the new generations?
Wes became a kind of big tree who involves the spirit of legend guitar as George Benson, Chuck Loeb, Jeff Golub, Stanley Jordan or Jinathan Butler.
Buy this. One of the best albums in 1996 and still sound Ok. It doesn't age just a bit!.
