Customer Reviews of Canon S300 Color Bubble Jet Printer
AMAZING! I've owned this printer for 3 yrs, I been through 7 printers within the past 5, and nothing can top this one. It is a budget printer, but the Quality it provides is good if your a student or a free lance printer. IF your into photography don't go with this printer. HOWEVER, this printer is a MONEY SAVER!!! the black ink I buy from target is only $6.40 and the color runs for about $17. You can't top that; the printer might be $100+ used but you will save lot of money in the long run in ink; I would reccomend this to anyone!
Badly designed printer prone to problems
The printer worked ok for a short period of time. Its obvious from its flimsy construction that this is a budget printer. The warmup cycle is long, loud, and fairly annoying. The color printing was far below the detail on an old HP 960c printer that I also used. However it worked ok for printing text with a few graphics, things like webpages. This however is not an adequate photo printer.
<
> Like many of the reviewers here I purchased the printer because of the Consumer Reports review and the printers low ink costs.
<
> What the Consumer Reports review unfortunately does not emphasize is that HP ink is more expensive because the print-head is contanined in the cartridge. Compare this to Canon printers which have a static printhead that is prone to trouble.
<
> After a short period of time my printer started to print text poorly. I replaced the ink cartridge, went through the canon series of cleaning and alignment and the problems persist. At that point your choice is spend $100+ on a new printhead or throw the printer in the garbage. I chose the latter.

> Looking at the reviews for this printer I would be interested to know if people who bought it still had their rosy opinion of the printer a year or so later when the printhead failed on them. I would say many would change their opinion of it.

> Canon printers look good on paper with the low ink cost. But when you factor in the design flaws: top-loading paper, static print-head. In the real world these printers dont live up to expectations.

> I much prefer the enclosed, bottom loading paper, and ink-cartridge based printhead on my HP Deskjet.

Nice Except For Ink Thirst
Overall this is a very good inexpensive ink jet printer. The image quality, black and white or color, plain paper or photo paper, is outstanding. It's fairly fast and fairly quiet. My only real complaint with it is that it goes through ink like crazy. More specifically though, the small ink cartridges tend to dry out rapidly once opened. If you don't do a lot of printing, you will be replacing the cartridges very often (per page). For example, I only print about 50-100 pages per year. But, I have to replace the (black only) ink cartridge 2-3 times per year, so I end up getting 20-30 pages per cartridge. However, if you do a lot of printing, I'm sure you'd get much more use out of a cartridge, as it would not have time to dry out and you'd be using all the ink. Fortunately you can replace only the black or only the color catridges separately, and while not cheap, they're not ridiculously expensive as some others are. That's my only knock on it, it's a fine little beast otherwise.
