Customer Reviews of Call of Duty Finest Hour

Horrible
Call of Duty games are the same thing every game. Except now you can drive a tank at a fasinating speed of maybe 10 MPH with a gun that doesnt shoot straight. Right now im on a level where you have to advance two machine gunners firing at you with little to no cover.i hide behind this little wall and the bullets are flying past both sides. HOW DO YOU PASS THAT WITH A BAD GUN?? This game tries to hard also. They try to make it accurate down to the last detail. Which sometimes is ridiculous. No one in 1942-1944 lived and fought like your expected in this game with the horrible firing accuracy of the guns. Anyway, my point is dont waste your money. Buy Medal of Honor Frontline, or The original Call of Duty for PC. Oh by the way I am a huge COD fan. Not some guy who bought this never playing a Call of duty game before.

defining average
Call of Duty: Finest Hour was the first console version of the acclaimed World War II-themed first-person shooter Call of Duty series. On the PC, the initial game drew great critical and consumer praise for its frenetic, pulse-pounding historical battles, sweeping cinematic scope and state-of-the-art visuals. Within the confines of stringent console hardware limitations then, Finest Hour attempts to recreate those atmospheric effects and gameplay mechanics. This is not, however, a straight port of the PC title, but rather an all-new game that only borrows elements from its predecessor. <

>Wading through Finest Hour, you perceive the war through the varying eyes of multiple soldiers of diverse nationalities. At the onset you'll find yourself in Russia, then progress to North Africa for the British campaign in 1943, finally ending with the U.S. perspective in 1944. As the Russians, traversing the Volga River in an intense, dreary atmosphere of impending doom, you'll attempt to drive the German army out of a besieged, burning and crumbling Stalingrad. The British portion transpires in the North African deserts, and the American operations see you beginning the thrust into Western Germany with the capture of Aachen. <

>Throughout the proceedings here, you'll be attended by AI allies who will clash by your side, aiding in the advancement through the levels. These cronies can be killed by the opposition--and usually are at some point--although they're typically just replaced with others later on. Unfortunately, the AI of these characters is atrocious. Repeatedly, you'll see them "stuck" on walls or in ditches of behind some vehicle, legs pumping like madmen, unable to move because their path finding routines won't let them navigate the environments. Once, this actually caused me to have to stop the game and reload an earlier checkpoint, as the AI character I was supposed to be following in a scripted sequence got stuck running into a wall (or worse, got stuck in a wall of vehicle, polygonal flesh, metal and concrete becoming one) and wouldn't move again. Furthermore, the AI of the opposing forces you fight against is equally abysmal, oftentimes running right past you, ignoring your fire, while they jog off to their predestinated shooting locations. And of course, they still do the age-old trick of standing toe-to-toe with you and taking all the fire you can dish out. No hint of the active, thinking AI here as in more advanced games such as F.E.A.R. And speaking of the checkpoint save system they've implemented, it's a most unpleasant, vengeful scheme. Sure, on some of the shorter, less arduous undertakings, one checkpoint per level is all fine and well. But with some of the lengthier, thorny levels, this technique will oblige you to be replay particular missions over and over and over again, to the point of utter exasperation. It's quite wearisome, to say the least--particularly when compared to the quick-save ability of the original PC game--and as such really takes away from much of the potential enjoyment there might have been in this title. <

>In addition to the expected, bombed-out cityscape scenes familiar to veterans of numerous World War II games of the sort, there's also a surprising number of obligatory tank driving missions, a turret gunning mission on the back of a jeep, and multiple sniper gallery sequences. The visuals are respectable enough, impressive in some aspects--weapon and character modeling, for example--while being decidedly average in others, such some architectural details, sky animations and ambient foliage. <

>Most facets of this game are decent and acceptable, but nothing really stands out. It's all been done before, and been done better. Call of Duty: Finest Hour fairly defines the word average in the realm of World War II themed, first-person-shooter games on consoles. <

Good game but not worth the price of 50 bucks
This game is a game I picked up at gamestop when i was in need of a game. I think i got it for 20 dollars. This game is a good game to play but i would not have payed more than 20 dollars for it, its just not worth that kind of money. <

> The story of course is based on WW2 so there isnt much to explain about it. The cinematechs are just old clips of ww2 events with some guy talking in the background explaining the event and then you play the event. It doesnt really bring you into the game all that well. <

> The gameplay is probly the strongest quality of the game. IT really brings you the aspect of being in a world war. The only problem is the game is really short, too short to be exact. Also the gameplay didnt really have that much detail. The weapons are the usual world war 2 weapons, I still hate the crap loading but I mean if they had to deal with it back then i guess we should play with it. Sadly it has no multiplayer except for live, I would have really liked to see a co-op mulitplayer. The levels in the game were good but then again the levels were short and the missions were'nt that hard to complete. The gameplay though did have a lot of stuff going on at once which is a great feature. I mean you would see a plane come across drop a bomb while a tank shoots down a building while grenades are flying off cement walls and thousands of people running for cover from a turret......its pretty sweet. I believe the beginning of the game is by far the best when you are the russians. It has the most fun levels with that sort of craziness. As the game goes on it starts to get boring especially when you hit the part in the game where u play as the united states, I would think they would make this part the most fun, but you do the boring missions in that part of the game, it gets really boring. <

> The graphics could have been a lot better in my aspect. IF the graphics were good the game would have jumped to a 4 overall for me. The sound in the game is good and there is always sounds of people and your men screaming. In suround sound its beastly. <

> Overall this game could have been a lot better, it is def not worth more than 20 bucks and it only keeps you occupied for a little bit cause then it gets boring. Another thing that really annoys me is if a game has a really boring main menu screen, it pisses me off cause then i dont feel like playing and this game has a really boring menu screen. The gameplay though does get boring as you go through the game and I'm still so bored of the gameplay that i never bought the second one and I probly wont buy the third one for ps3.
