Take the mystery out of wine-serving temperatures with this specialty thermometer. Most people know that red wines should be served at room temperature and whites chilled, but there are finer guidelines than that. The thermometer’s color-coded dial, as well as the chart on the protective sheath, indicate preferred temperatures for medium- and full-bodied reds, sweet and dry whites, and champagne. To test the temperature of a wine, simply insert the 5-3/4-inch stainless-steel probe into the bottle; the attached rubber stopper seals it tightly. Or, fill an empty wine bottle with water, insert the probe and stopper, and store it for testing in the wine storage rack. This method ensures that the temperature of the liquid itself, not the air temperature, is registered. Two additional rubber stoppers are included so that partially consumed bottles of wine can be sealed and stored on their sides if desired. The thermometer’s 1-3/4-inch dial features both Fahrenheit and Celsius, ranging from 40 to 70 degrees Fahrenheit (4 to 21 degrees Celsius).
