Customer Reviews of CAPCOM VIDEO GAMES Mega Man X5 (Windows)
Not great, but not as bad as everyone says When Capcom created a spin-off of its popular Mega Man series, it's doubtful they had any idea how successful the idea would be. To date, the "X" series of Mega Man games alone has seven titles spanning several game systems. The three games on the Super Nintendo each got gradually better than the last one, and the first game on the Playstation, X4, showed us that the series was alive and kicking. Roughly three years later X5 has arrived. How does it measure up? Read on and find out.
PROS:
-YOU CAN PLAY AS X OR ZERO, AND SWITCH BETWEEN THE TWO. In Mega Man X3, there were strict limits on where you could or could not play as Zero, and in X4, you could pick one or the other, and you'd be stuck with that character for the entire game. Finally, we have a Mega Man X game that lets you switch between the two at will! This feature was long overdue for this series.
-YOU CAN DUCK! Finally, Capcom has listened to fans and included the ability to duck in a Mega Man game! And Capcom also included a number of areas on the game where this is useful, so don't forget you've got the ability!
-MULTIPLE ENDINGS. Multiple endings are a great incentive to play through a game more than once, and starting with X2, Capcom began doing that with their Mega Man X series, and in my mind, it was a wise decision.
-TWO AWESOME NEW SUITS OF ARMOR. Each of the eight Robot Master stages as a piece for a suit of armor - the Falcon Armor, which specializes in flight, and the Gaea Armor, which is slow but super strong (it even makes you invincible to spikes!)
CONS:
-THE ROBOT LEADERS ARE NAMED AFTER GUNS 'N' ROSES MEMBERS. I am not making this up. Could Capcom have done something more stupid than this? Some of the games, like Grizzly Slash and Axl The Red actually aren't too bad, but Duff McWhalen? That's just terrible! The instruction booklet has alternate names for the robot leaders (probably the original Japanese ones.) Why didn't they stick with THOSE names? Just because you like a band doesn't mean you should go around parading it in your games.
-PLOT HOLES. If you thought the previous X games had a lot of plot holes, you ain't seen nothing yet! I'm not going to spoil anything for you, though - play the game yourself if you're curious.
-NO ANIME CUT SCENES!? WTF!? These cut scenes were one of the things that made Mega Man X4 one of the greatest games ever made, and they didn't put them in the sequel!? Instead we get still-frame cinema scenes, similar to Ninja Gaiden. What a rip.
-ALIA IS ANNOYING. Through the course of the games, a new reploid name Alia will contact you with various information. Sounds cool, right? WRONG! She gives you information as if it was your FIRST TIME PLAYING, and you CAN'T SKIP IT!
-IT'S TOO EASY! The game has too many checkpoints in every stage, and there are too many opportunities for extra lives. If you've played X4, you know it's a tough game that makes you work hard. That ain't true here. And if you start the game with Mega Man X and get his Fourth Armor, it makes the already easy game even easier!
-ZERO PLAYS LIKE HIS X4 SELF, NOT HIS X3 SELF. I wanted to be able to play as Zero from Mega Man X3, who could fire a cannon AND use a beam sabre. Instead we get the X4 Zero, who ONLY has the sabre. If you start with Zero, you get his cannon, but it sucks. You can only fire on the ground, it fires slow, and you can't charge it! Take my advice - start with X and get his Fourth Armor - it's WAY better than Zero's crappy cannon.
-TIME LIMIT. You are forced to rush through this game due to the element of a time limit. Being forced to rush through the game means you don't get as much time to explore certain areas.
-SIGMA'S BACK. Geez, how many times does this guy have to die before he'll stay dead!?
OVERALL:
Overall this is a good game, but it just falls flat when you compare it to any other game in the series. Take my advice and stick with X, X2, X3, and X4 - DO NOT bother with any of the games that came after, as they get gradually worse. This game was a good idea - too bad Capcom didn't pull it off that well. I can't believe we waited THREE YEARS for this!
Awesome
I just love this Megaman game. It's the first one I ever got. I really like it because I can use my gamepad. Also, I really like it when I fly in the falcon armor and walk on spikes in the Gaia armor. This game is fast-paced, fun and sort of hard. The graphics are very good.
If you are a Megaman gamer, this is a must buy!
